Hi ladies, I'm new to this board and hope you can help out. From lurking I see that SBP is very popular for those who want to BW around the house but it wasn't recommended when someone asked about a newborn sling. My newborn doesn't sleep or nap long on his own and I love feeling him on me anyway. It's just that my hand may fall off from carrying him all day. At 8.5 lb should I get the Sleepy that I saw recommended for newborns? I'll admit I'm nervous about the warnings that LO will fall out if you're not careful! BTW I have a Bjorn although I see Ergo recommended over it bc DH hated the Ergo. I don't feel as close to LO as I'd like with either anyway.
Re: Wearing newborn around
Do you mean the SBP ring sling or the sleepy baby wrap?? Either is a great choice for newborns ;-)
The wrap is a stretchy wrap that will definitely give you a hands free, snuggly feeling. The ring sling is a nice choice for when you want a quicker carry. With either, I'd recommend the upright tummy to tummy position over a cradle carry. Worn properly, both are very safe ;-)

You definitely can nurse in a wrap, but it does take a little more time to master than it would in a ring sling. There are several youtube videos showing how to do it.
Most of us that live in warmer climates (or just have hot summers) have thinner woven wraps that we use. (Like a Vatanai, Zara, or Ellaroo)
i have both a SBP ring sling and a sleepy wrap. i love them both but for different reasons. for long wears and secure hands free with my 2 month old, i like the sleepy. for quick in and outs, errand running, fashion and nursing i like the ring sling.
i also have an ergo i think i'll use more as she gets bigger. in terms of what to do when it gets warmer -- i think a rs or ergo would work fine in warmer climates. probably not a sleepy unless you wear nothing underneath. i know a lot of folks only wear their mobys and no tops in summer.
