I saw your siggy pic of your little girl and noticed she has a strawberry.  My daughter has one too only it is cavernous.  It is also on her face (right temple).  I saw you are from NJ.  Are you by any chance having her seen by any CHOP doctors?  We are having our LO treated at CHOP for hers and I'd love to chat with you if you are seeking treatment for it at all.

  • Our ped sent us to Dr. Helen Shin Ped. dermatologist and she's treating DD with Timilol. It's getting better slowly. We also went to see Dr. Lucy Chen (eye dr) to make sure that the bump (it was much bigger then) wasn't blocking her vision.

    What is CHOP?

  • CHOP is Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.  Our ped. dermatologist is Dr. James Treat.  We too are seeing a ped. eye dr tomorrow to make sure the bump isn't occluding her vision in any way.  We had it ultrasound today to quadruple check that it is indeed a hemangioma.

I see that the medication your dr. prescribed is a beta blocker.  We too will probably go this route but with the beta block propranolol.  Our DD will be in a trial that uses propanolol for this purpose even though the beta blocker has been around for over 25 years and its use in infants is well documented.  This trial is being conducted by most of the pediatric dermatologists around the country and also by Johns Hopkins' doctor, Dr. Cohen who has since made hemangiomas his specialty.

Our DD will go into the hospital for 4 days when she is first given this medication to monitor how she reacts and make adjustments if needed.  Did you do that too?  Our dr. said that with the propranolol they have seen and immediate shrink in the hemangiomas in most cases and they get to the point where they aren't there at all.
