Babies: 0 - 3 Months

mom's that had c-section for breech baby?

My LO is still breech and I'm still hoping she flips but if not we'll end up with a c-section (opting out of version and Dr doesn't deliver breech).

What happens if you go into labor before your scheduled c-section or your water breaks?  Is it different if LO is breech?

Also, any advice on c-sections would be great...I'm still hoping I don't have to get one but I want to be prepared.

TIA

  • they just take you in for a csection... if you really dont want a csec talk tp your doc about your options for trying to turn the baby my SILs last LO was breech until a week before she delivered so theres still time!

  • For DS1, I had a scheduled c/s for Feb. 23rd (39w2d). I went into labor Feb. 15th (38w1d). I just called the on-call OB and she said to head to the hospital. They confirmed it was active labor (and that he was still breech) and I was in the OR within 45 minutes.

With DS2, I was scheduled for a c/s for Oct. 21st (39w1d). Went into labor on the 20th (39w0d). Headed in and had a c/s within 2 hours.

If your water breaks you need to get in fast...if you just go into labor, I'd head in when contractions are 5-7 minutes apart or so.

  • I didn't have a breech baby- but I did have a scheduled c-section. My water broke two days before and I just went into the hospital and they did my c-section then.

Also if you know you are going to have a schedule c-section, my suggestion is that you make a few meals ahead of time to freeze. It's so nice to come home and be able to rest without worrying about what needs to be made for dinner. You can just throw it in the oven heat it up! (Even if you don't have a c-section this would still be nice. Less time cooking = more time with LO)

  • Exactly what pp said, call the second you think you're in labor and let them know you are breech. They will treat you a bit more urgently and probably have you come in sooner. I went into pre term labor so my experience wsa a bit different but the dr's were very adamant that I called the second my contrax were painful or 5 min apart.

My c-section was amazing, probably because it was scheduled and I knew what to expect and had a good mindset. I found the experience really positive and healed very quickly and without a lot of pain. I had given up on a vaginal delivery and accepted and embraced the section, I think that's what really helped me make it a postivie experience. I had such a good recovery and delivery that I won't even try for the VBAC next time.

My only advice: ask for the catheter to be inserted AFTER the spinal. That was the worst part of the whole surgery for me!

  • Ditto PP, if you go into labor or your water breaks, you just head to the hospital and they do your c-section.  Even if one of those things happens, you will have plenty of time to get there.  I had a scheduled c-section because DD was breech, and ended up having her the week before it was scheduled because at my last doctors appointment she thought my BP was high so she sent me over to the hospital for monitoring and then just came over after her last office appointment of the day and did my surgery.  It truly wasnt bad at all.  And this is coming from someone who was adamant about having a completely natural birth.

  • My baby was transverse (sideways) not breech, so I had to go in quickly for an emergency c-section when my water broke.

My advice for c-section: granny panties, comfy pants that don't hit your bikini line, get up and walk as soon as they'll let you as it gets you eating and pooping and recovering faster, football hold if you're planning to BF, ibuprofen is your friend, if you start bleeding more once you're home/getting more active you are overdoing it and should back off.

ps: My doctor/hospital do breech deliveries, so if you feel very strongly about no surgery you could ask to be referred somewhere that does.

  • Take stool softener and gas relief when they give it to you.

Remind the nurses to bring your pain pills on time so your pain doesn't build up.

    Walk asap after.
