Now that S has teeth coming in, we figured it is time to start brushing them. What ideas/tips/good suggestions can you share? Someone gave us one of the Orajel finger toothbrushes with toothpaste, but I was curious as to how to get S to allow us to put it in her mouth.
Re: Ideas on brushing teeth
The first time we tried M was having none of it. We got past it by having DH hold her while I brushed DHs teeth with his brush for a second. She was more than happy to let me brush her teeth (*edited with her brush*) after that. Now I only have a few seconds to get in there and clean her teeth before she takes the brush to do it herself.
* Edited to clarify - I used DH's toothbrush on him and used Maddie's little toddler brush on her. Ick at the thought of using DHs brush on DD

We use a silicone toothbrush at bath time and M loves it! No tricks to pass along since he usually opens wide for it on his own. He often bites down on it, but we can usually get his whole mouth done.
Just leave off the toothpaste. I wouldn't use that until they can spit it out.

Matt LOVES his banana toothbrush. He sleeps with it some nights. We make a big deal about bringing out "Mr. Toothbrush" at night and made brushing part of his nighttime routine.
We usually lay Matt down on the changing table and brush his teeth that way. Most times we need to gently hold his arms down from his face at first because he is so wiggly on the table but as soon as he opens his mouth he lets us brush. After I feel like he got a good enough brushing, I let him take the brush and try himself.
We also have Matt watch us brush our teeth in the morning and we talk about how great it is to have clean teeth yadda yadda.
