Give maintenance guy a gift?

He lives at our townhome complex, 3 doors down. He's very cliquey with the people who have lived there longer but used to be semi friendly with us, waves in the parking lot and all...

BUT, we came home from being out of town on Thanksgiving night and our heat wasn't working right...the whole house was about 52 degrees. I had to knock on his door at 10pm on a holiday and ask for his help. Yes, we had space heaters out and blankets everywhere, but I had a baby to think about. He gave me a VERY dirty look when he opened the door, spent 5 minutes mumbling in our basement, and then left and brought a new thermostat in the morning. The house did warm up some overnight, so I'm not sure if he fixed it that night or in the AM.

Now he's not as friendly. Requests to fix things take about  a week. Admittedly I do ask him for non-urgent, simple things, but I figure that is his job!

Sooo...butter him up with some baked goods and small gift OR say screw him?

  • A little brown nosing never hurts!  Seriously, though, I would be super thankful for anyone who is in charge of fixing the heat in my home, so I would probably give him a little something with a nice note about how much I appreciates all he does.
