I mean there were a few things in there that made me , but isn't the whole point of UO to state your UO? It seemed like there was some healthy discussion going on, but some people get their panties all in a bunch.
THANK YOU! I am so sick of people who can't take other peoples opinions! Just let them have their opinions, and you can have yours. If you want to feel high and mighty about your own opinion, that is fine, but you don't have to put others down.
Ha - I know. They're called "unpopular" for a reason. Obviously people aren't going to agree with it! I don't see why people feel the need to say "your opinion sucks!" when it's being posted on a UO post!! The OP probably thinks YOUR opinion sucks! You should expect to find something you disagree with on a UO post - that's the point!!!
I'm not saying lets braid each others hair and talk about boys, but respect that *gasp* other people may not think like you..
The people that act like they have it all figured out or get high and mighty chap my tush. The only thing I know from being a parent is realizing just how much I DON'T know.
I think as with everything in life, it's not what you say but the way you say it.
Saying something specific like you believe in CIO or kids shouldn't all get trophys (which I agree with) are fine.
People get upset when you make generalizations like it would be better if it was a return to the 1950's. That's not a specific statement of what you believe. That is a sweeping generalization that encompasses many aspects. Was it meant that women shouldn't be allowed to be in many professions? Should blacks not be able to go into a restaurant? Separate but equal was the law until 1954. Women who were raped couldn't file a report without independant corroboration from an eyewitness that they were raped (as if a rapist would rape a woman in front of a witness). Those were all things also true in the 1950's.
Of course that isn't what was meant when the statement was made (I hope). They wanted to be able to be a SAHM. That is what they should have said. But to say it in a way that life was better in the 1950's opens up a BIG can of worms and invites the fighting that occurred.

Good point! Especially when people are preaching about how they are going to be an example for their children and that's why they believe this or don't believe that. Is the example you are trying to set that you don't believe in tolerance or respect?
So..OPINIONS are like A$$holes, everyones got em. There is no right or wrong answer for everything, you ADAPT to what works for you! Calling out other peoples opinions is just begging to start a problem, its obvious they will not change their opinion to suit you no matter how big of a novel you write trying to get your "point" across. Being able to discuss opinions is mature, and respectable. Calling names and disrespecting others is juvenille. Lead by example.
I put this in the UO thread but I just wanted to respond basically the same way, to this thread.
Take Sh!t with a grain of salt people :-)

Predictable bump is so predictable. After truly unpopular posts, there is always a whiny, "but WHY are people so upset over it, it's just an OPINION?"
...and so the world turns...
Sage Pixy is always so sage.
Buy hey, it's just an opinion.
