NPR: is this rude?

We had our department holiday luncheon yesterday. As a few of us were just starting to clean up, a woman in our department brought in a person from another department she was having a scheduled meeting with. She brings the man in, shows him the spread on the tables, and tells him to help himself. Doesn't say anything to us (and our department head was right next to me), doesn't introduce him, nothing. He gets himself a few desserts and they walk out. Side note: we always schedule to have the leftovers together the day after the luncheon as a group, so it's not as if any of this food would be going to waste, or going back home, etc. Is this rude, or am I just being hypersensitive b/c I can't stand this particular woman?

  • probably inappropriate of your colleague knowing the tradition and all... it's tough b/c I know how you feel, but you don't want to be that person to say something.  lol.   we each bring a dish for holidays on our unit (since we're stuck there on holidays, and random staff from around the hospital will come and look or pick at our food. There's one PA who when he comes has to peak in our delivery boxes. Um, we just ordered dinner since the darn cafeteria isn't open overnight....  I don't want your grubby fingers or nose in my food... back off.  that's not even on a holiday. ick
