Kinda late for my "ask a new mom" post but I wanted to wait and really give myself time to get things figured out before I started doling out advice or experience! Any questions?

How many diapers should I get in NB size and size 1 for the beginning? We're doing disposables, thanks

Ok, Jax was a bigger baby, 9lb 3oz at birth and 8lb 7 oz when we left the hosp, made his weight back up quick though. we still used the pack of Pampers NB size the hospital sent us home with and another package of Pampers Sensitive NB (he had a bit of a sensitive booty when he was real little but that went away) that was like 50 ct I think and then another big box of NB! So don't got by the weight recs because he was probably a good 10 or 11 lbs before he really got into size 1s. Ok now for the size ones, we used those from about 4 wks to just the past couple of weeks. I have actually switched to Target store brand Up and Ups and Walmart Store brand Parent's Choice diapers. The size 1s in Up and Ups ran smaller than the Pampers...so my mom still has size 1 pampers at her house and Jax still fits into those at over 16 lbs now, but he was into the Up and Up size 2s about 2-3 weeks ago.
So that was a really long response, but assuming your baby comes out smaller than mine, I'd say buy 2 bigger boxes of NB and then probably 2-3 big boxes of size 1s. And if you don't go the store brand route (which will save you sooooooo much money, and I've had no leaking problems), definitely sign up for Amazon Mom and subscribe to whatever size you need. When I was still buying the Pampers Sensitive, I would have 1 box of 180 a month shipped to my doorstep (you can do more or less as needed) and it cost me $28 even (no tax or shipping) vs $41 in the store. But since switching I save even more by about 6 or 7 dollars for the same amount of diapers.

God willing we go full term... I also anticipate having a *big* boy. (DH is 6' 4" and was over 10 lbs at birth. At 18 weeks LO is already measuring huge too.)
What size clothing was Jax at birth? And does it look like he'll be going through sizes quickly? I don't plan on buying anything newborn, but I'm not sure how many 0-3 months I should buy/keep.

Kind of the same as the diapers, he was still in NB for about a month. Now with clothes I would lean more towards length than weight. Jackson was on the shorter side at 19 1/2 in. I would buy a few NB sleepers just in case, maybe just 3 or 4. Just so you'll have him covered if needed. If you have a Once Upon A Child in the area or a kids consignment store in the area and you don't mind used, I would get sleepers there, like 2 - 4 dollars a piece.
ETA: Sorry forgot about the 0-3 month clothes! We phased out his 0-3 month clothes in the last 2 weeks and they were getting kinda short on him!! I think over all I probably had about 10 NB sleepers and I've got probably 15 0-3 sleepers plus onsies and pants. But I'm not a big fan of onesies and pants because then you have to put socks on them and I'm forever losing socks! I might have liked onesies more if I have a spring or summer baby and it was hot out, but it started to get cold pretty quick here after he was born. I do have a few Carters sets that have a long sleeve and short sleeve button down jersey cotton cardigan and jersey cotton footed pants...love those with onesies!!

For how long was it really hard- before you got some sort of new-mom groove going...and did you almost lose it in the meantime?!
Right now Jackson is sleeping through the night so I'm getting about 7-9 hrs depending. That started about 8 wks. Now that varies from baby to baby, there are women on PAL with much older babies that still aren't STTN. Depends on whether you BF or FF also. BF babies need to eat more often than FF babies. We pumped and bottle fed (with formula supplements) until about 6 wks. And while he was on BM only (at first I was pumping plenty for him to eat, but as his appetite got bigger my supply didn't and it diminished at about 6 wks, so I stopped and FF exclusively after that), he usually woke up 2-3 times a night. Then we started feeding formula for the last meal of the night (10pm-midnight for us) and he got to where he only woke up once around 3-4am and then he'd go back to sleep until 8 or 9am. Now he sleeps from about midnight until around 8 or 9 am.
My belly is still loose in the front, so I have a bit of a skin roll. I have lost all 40 lbs of my baby weight (the pumping or BFing helps!). I imagine if I would workout and eat better, it would probably shrink even more and tighten up some...guess I should get on that. The weight came off pretty fast for me and I was back in my pre-pg jeans around 2-3 wks pp. Below is a pic of my belly 3 wks pp, I'm about a size 18-20 pre-pg and those are my size 20 fat jeans.
I'm not trying to sound like mom of the year or some AWish FH but I never really found it that hard. But everyone is different and every baby is different. I thought for sure that I'd have PPD or that Jackson would be difficult, but I didn't have any problems. DH and I kinda fell into a natural rhythm. He has been very hands on from day 1 (he was the first person ever to change Jax's diaper) because he knew nothing about taking care of babies and he didn't want to be scared so he did whatever he could while there were people around to help him. Plus DH is a night person, so he was able to stay up at night until Jackson's middle of the night feeding so I didn't have to wake up, then I'd take Jax when he woke up in the morning so DH could sleep. Jax has been a really good baby, he only cries when he's hungry or needs a change.
Now I will say the hardest thing at first is my insane fear of SIDS. I didn't sleep well unless someone was watching him sleep, until we got an Angelcare Monitor when he was about 2 wks old. I tested it thoroughly and have been able to sleep soundly ever since. In fact I'm about to buy another one for my parent's house because I'm tired of dragging mine back and forth when he goes to their house!
I think I got all those answered, let me know if I left anything out!!
Sorry I'm a rambler!
