who here is working out?

I was always an avid exerciser. I've been slacking a bit this fall.... depressed a bit due to TTTC. I had an early loss last pregnancy so when I got my BFP this time I did not want to work out until I saw my maternal/fetal doctor. She gave me the ok...but now with my laziness/fatigue I am finding it difficult to get back into my old routine.

I am so dissapointed in myself...I really want to maintain a healthy weight gain. I do NOT lose weight easily so I am scared to get out of control and not be able to lose the weight

Re: who here is working out?

  • I am.  I'm keeping my weights light and the intensity low for right now but I am continuing to work out.  Granted, I'm not very far along so major fatigue hasn't hit me yet so hopefully I can keep going even when it does hit.

  • I am still doing Zumba.  I have been taking classes 2-3x a week since June so its considered safe to continue with.  I went to class on Monday and just made sure not to get to intense, I definitely toned down the bouncing/jumping.

  • I'm the same way.  I love running and lifting, but lately finding the engery to do anything when I get home from work has been difficult.  I'll keep checking back on this thread to see if anyone has any suggestion on how to get past the fatigue.

  • I was working out all the time before we found out that we got pregnant. About 5xwk. But now I am soooooo tired that I'm struggling to find the energy. Actually I went the other day and walked (tried my normal running but it hurt my boobs) on a treadmill for an hr. and I lost 50 less calories that what my normal run/walk/hr would have been. So I was kinda excited to know that I could walk and still get a good workout in. I am like you I dont loose weight easily either but I dont want to overdue it either. I would just say listen to your body and trust your instincts. And eating healthy foods will help too! Good Luck!
  • I'm only lightly working out - mostly b/c I haven't exactly been active lately. I was far more active a couple of years ago and while I keep meaning to get back into running, I've decided now is definitely not the time and will focus more on walking and healthy eating.
  • I've also always been really into working out. I must admit...I haven't been working out at ALL since DD was born in July, and I hardly did at all when I was pregnant with her. (Due to fatigue, mostly). I worked out early on during that pregnancy, until I really started showing...at which point it became too difficult to really do anything but walk! I didn't gain too much weight at all, and after having her it came right off. (Without working out). I know everyone's different, but I wouldn't worry about the weight too much...as long as you're not totally out of control with your eating!
  • I'm trying. I find I don't really have the energy, especially for weights. I've always loved lifting more than cardio, but I'm trying at least to hit the elliptical or bike a few times a week. It's a challenge though since I mostly want to sleep!
  • I walk on the treadmill for 25-30 minutes 3-4 times a week.  I used to walk some and run and now I just walk and I go as fast as I feel comfortable with.  My feeling is that it is good for circulation etc. but it is not a race.
  • i've been trying to go to the gym, but i've been so tired and my stomach just hasn't been right these last few days.  I either am too tired or have indigestion/headache/heartburn.  Plus, it's like 15 degrees here so going home from work, changing into gym clothes and leaving the house again, doesn't appeal to me when i'm the slightest bit uncomfortable.
  • I asked the doctor about this yesterday. She told me only to exercise 30 minutes at a time and do not let your heartrate go over 140. She also told me that I wasn't allowed to do pilates class anymore because it is too much core exercise....I was really upset about that. She just suggested that I do elliptical, treadmill, or bike, and light weights.
  • ditto. i worked out 3x a week with a trainer and 2x a week of cardio on my own prior to my BFP... and now i lack all motivation and just want to go home and sleep after work.

i can't wait for my energy level to spike again...

  • I wasn't very good about it when we were TTC so I'm not going to get back into it now hard core but I do want to do prenatal yoga and plan to get some DVDs for that.

  • I go to yoga class once a week, and try to go at least a few other times a week to do the elliptical, recumbant bike or go for a walk. Its so hard with being so tired, but I figure I'll get back into it in the 2 tri. At this point if I am tired I just sit on the couch - listening to my body, right?

BTW: My yoga teacher is super experienced and knowlegdable on prenatal yoga, and she said for me not to worry about any of the yoga poses until the 20th week. I'm not sure if that just meant her class or all yoga, but I thought it was interesting. it definitely made me less fearful.

  • When I got my BFP I had just signed up for and started training for a half marathon in February. After reading your heartrate should not go above 140 I decided to stop training. My heart skyrockets when I run :(

I told myself I was going to walk for an hour each day but do to the cold and fatigue I have not gone at all this week. I am really worried about gaining weight and not being able to loose it so I need to get my butt in gear.

  • I'm really trying to make sure I get in at least 30 minutes of exercise 3-4 times/week. I take a Zumba class every Thursday, which I love, though like a PP I've toned down the bouncing and jumping a little bit. I used to jog but now am ellipticalling instead, as it's less impact. I'm also planning to sign up for a prenatal yoga class after the holidays.

One of my instructors at the gym told me the same thing, especially since I've been going frequently. I usually do a combination of spin/body pump/abs classes at the gym but after I return from holidays I plan to just hit the elliptical for half an hour, the seated bike for an hour, or very light weights. I was also thinking of joining an aquafit class because I have read it is one of the best options and can be done throughout pregnancy!

  • I've been "kinda" working out. I agree when you're tired and sickly it's hard to get the energy. All I've done the last 2 weeks is a light 20 min workout video 3 times a week. It isn't much but better than nothing I suppose. I intend to get a little better.

However, I bought Lindsey Brinn's complete pregnancy workout DVD set (It has a 1st trimester, 2nd and 3rd 30 min DVD plus a post baby boot camp DVD) I want to get into that - but like you said the energy hasn't been there :(

    Hopefully soon!

  • I just haven't had the energy.  I bought a couple prenatal yoga DVDs so I'm planning on starting those soon.  I've been trying to make it to the gym to walk on the treadmill, but the weather has been so cold and nasty here lately that after work, I just want to go home!  I'll be better after the holidays.

  • I got off track as well, but am now workingn out every other day. If I feel exhausted I just do a lite workout
  • I slacked off this cycle that we were TTC (trying to fit a workout in my busy schedule was stressing me out and I was trying to de-stress) and I haven't picked it back up yet. I was going to try to start going again this week...just 30 min on the elliptical, but then I started spotting and have been scared to. Even though the Dr says its fine, I will probably wait until the spotting stops before picking it back up again.

  • I was just thinking about what is the best way to work out without overdoing it.  I did P90X before I got married nad pregnant, but that is WAY out of the question at this point.  I have been walking on my tredmill and feeling OK about it.  I tried to run at 5mph, but I got a side-sticker, so I stopped.  My best friend played volleyball (she's a setter for a league) until she was 7 months pregnant....I feel like something will get loose!  haha...talk about naive!!

  • I am in the same boat as you. I sort of slacked off when I had my miscarriage in September and just never really got back on track. My big plan is to go to the gym five days a week to walk and do light weights and eventually some prenatal yoga.

However, I'm a big slacker with Christmas coming and haven't gotten off my butt to do it! The tightness around my waistband isn't just bloat I have a feeling.

I also need to get my eating back under control - every since Thanksgiving...

  • I hear ya!! Im always feeling ms so I havent been motivated to go to work. So im starting out small. walking a couple laps around the neighborhood. Note: small neighborhood

  • I've always been active on and off again. I haven't really been in shape for over a year now. I do yoga once a week, but I'm hoping to go more. I'll be going to class at night and will talk to the instructor about what she thinks or some alterations I could make to certain poses. I figure I've been doing that for a while, so it's no different. Otherwise, I think my dogs will be getting walked a lot more often now that I can't really run or do more things.

  • I need to be. I used to workout 5 days a week but I have also been slacking this fall. I started back up this month when we were stil TTC. I'll probably do 3 days of light cardio and 2 days of prenatal yoga. If I can get enough energy to do anything.

  • I am. Still running and doing yoga daily. As far as the fatigue, for me its just a matter of getting out and doing it. I feel more energized after I get my workout in.

  • I was working out 4-5 days per week but recently have only been going 2 times a week. I'm so freaking tired!!! I have been shoveling the snow to make up for it. I sure hope that my energy comes back soon.

  • I workout off and on... before I got my bfp, I was getting into a good routine again but the workouts I was doing are high impact aerobics which is not okay while working out so I need to find something else to do. With 2 little boys running around, it's hard to find the time to workout so DVDs at home work best for me. I need to find a DVD that isn't super expensive for pregnancy.
