TTC after 35

Quick question about OPK's

I am using OPK's this month in addition to my usual charting.  It is my first time using them.  I just wonder if they get progressively darker, or is it a light one day- dark the next kind of thing?  My line yesterday was definitely darker than the one today, but not dark enough to be positive.  I have no signs of ovulation yet, so I don't think I missed anything, but I was just checking.  Thanks!

Re: Quick question about OPK's

  • mine usually get darker each day however last month it was light one, and dark the next- strange. also, my "positive" was always the same color as the test line, never darker.

  • From what I've read on this board it varies from person to person.  I typically have a very faint line until a day or two before the surge.  Then it darkens until I get a positive. I test twice a day so I usually see one or two darker ones before I get the positive.

  • I've had months where it gets progressively darker, and months where it's light right up until I get a positive. I would say if it's getting darker that probably means a positive is on its way. Good luck!

  • This is my second month using OPKs and I have yet to see a test line that is as dark as the reference line.  I'm on day 24 now.  A few days ago the test line was light towards the top then got progressively darker down the line until the bottom was about as dark as the reference line.  I have no idea what that meant!  (I check once a day in the afternoon).  Some other posts have suggested testing multiple times a day if you have a "short surge" so you don't miss it.  My friend said her test line got progressively darker each day until it was definitely positive.  Hope that help!  Good luck!

  • Thanks everyone!  Glad to hear so much advice.  So far it has just varied each day, darker, then lighter, then lighter again today- but nothing like the control line.  I anticipated ovulation tomorrow or Friday, so it will be interesting to see if/when I get a positive.  I may to test a couple times a day next month if I don't see a surge- I was just trying to avoid peeing on a stick at work.  Smile

  • I don't know what your work schedule is but I test twice a day and never at work.  I do FMU and then when I get home from work.  I know most people don't use FMU, but I've read differing opinions on that and I have gotten a positive with it.
