Well, last night Aiden got really sick- took him to pedi. He has croup, sinus infection, and was wheezing. But, I thought we would try and continue on with the swallow study and post-op appt at MUSC today. WRONG decision.

It was awful. He was terrified of the xray machine etc (same one we have been using for the other 5 swallow studies....just at that age where they get hard.) He took a couple (prob 2 sips) and bawled the whole time and refused to drink more. ALl we could see was that his swallow was still delayed. In 6 months we will decide to do another swallow study ot FEES test. Anyone else done a FEES test? Thanks!

Re: Repeat Swallow Study= Awful!
Oh no! Poor little guy! I hope he is feeling better soon.
I do not know anything about an FEES test.
I am so sorry to hear this - I don't know anything about these specific issues, but have had similar experiences with DS when we have to have specialized and unpleasant audiological stuff and he's under the weatherr (like today).
It really astounds (and humble) me when I think about what our children endure and how resilient they are.
Yeah- I researched it. An ENT from Cincinnati first recommended it when he was about 4 months old and we were preparing for his laryngeal cleft surgery. We opted not to do it there and didnt do the test. The other day the SLP doing the swallow study (she has des 5-6 of them with Aiden) and the ENT both suggested it. They acted like they do it frequently with pediatric patients. Aiden is scared of the xray equipment and they felt that he may do this the next time- thus not getting much useful info. But, like you I was leaning towards trying a swallow study again- Aiden hates the scope...and the ENT said it is a similar camera that they use. Thanks!
