Parenting after 35

"I can do it myself"

This stage is both cute and maddening. Caroline doesn't want help with eating or brushing her teeth or putting on shoes.Even though she can't actually do any of those things (well some eating) on her own. Cute and maddening!

Re: "I can do it myself"

  • Agreed!  S has started that as well.  Sometimes she won't eat unless she can feed herself.  She also is determined to push the release button on her car seat and is upset that it won't work for her.  Hopefully that one will take a while to learn!

  • Very true... and it makes me happy for her and all the things she can/will do and sad because I know that pretty soon she WILL be able to do everything herself and she wont be a baby anymore. :(

  • Yep, we are there too. She insists on using the spoon herself but no actual food makes it to her mouth. She does finger food just fine. Thankfully she has not started with the shoes.
  • M does that. We've made quite a few messes because he insists on feeding himself stuff that I'd rather feed him - stuff that's messier.

I'm not particularly OCD, but I used to prefer to feed him saucey stuff myself.

  • Aaron also is like this.  Brushing teeth is a battle that he's winning. But he'll still let me feed him yogurt--everything else he does himself.

    Sporks rule, btw ...
