Parenting after 35

I can't believe this :(

Following up on my BFP post... I am devastated.  I think I spoke too soon.  I started bleeding this morning and not just a little spotting.  I called my dr. and they won't see me unless I'm going through a pad an hour.  WTF?  Is that normal?!  I mean for them not to see me.  If I'm losing the pregnancy, and I have a sick feeling that I am, I understand there's probably not much that can be done to stop it but it would be nice to know for sure what's going on.  I've never suffered a loss before but I am having what I read are typical symptoms - bright red bleeding and cramping :(  I am so sad.  It might seem silly since we only found out on Friday but I was so, so excited.

  • Oh no! I'm so sorry :(

And I can't believe the doc can't squeeze you in.

  • Oh no. I am so sorry. I had an early loss and I was devastated. I hope that's not what is happening though.

When *are* they going to see you? If they can't get you in right away, can you at least make an appointment for blood work to get your betas checked?

  • I'm sorry. I hope that you are not losing it. I guess if it is too early to see anything on an u/s they don't feel they can give you any information. Still though, you would think they would have you come in and have betas drawn at least.

I really hope that it is just some minor spotting and nothing to worry about.

  • I'm so sorry.  Call another dr, even your GP.  My OB had me come in for a blood-test to confirm I was losing/had lost my pg when I had a chemical.  It is actually important to make sure all has passed because it can cause issues if it doesn't.  FWIW, with chemicals, you can try the next cycle.  That's how we got DS!

  • I am sorry you are going through this and I hope you have a positive outcome. Please don't feel silly. You have every right to your feelings.

  • I am so sorry to hear this.  When we thought we were miscarrying, the office told me that it would a) feel like the worst cramps that I would ever have and b) I would go through a pad an hour.  Since I wasn't having either of those, just mild bleeding all day, they sent me in to do bloodwork and told me to call them back on Monday (this was of course happening on a Friday).  I ended up going into urgent care because I was still feeling strange and they did an ultrasound.  Turns out we were still pregnant and had S.

Like pp said, I'd call them and see if you can go in for bloodwork.  I think they can do it today and Friday and can tell if the levels are still rising.  Hang in here - T&P and sticky dust headed your way.

This is true. A few months ago I had a (brief) BFP and those cramps were the devil. I was on the bed crying and that is not my normal AF. I was flying though pads also.

Whereas with Maddie, I did have some normal 1st tri bleeding. I am hoping this is the case for you also.

  • Ugh, I hope it is really nothing.  But I would call to see if you could have blood drawn.  Really at this time there is not much they can do.  I know how hard it is... I also had a Chemical pregnancy right before I got pregnant with my 2nd son.

  • Sorry you're going through this. I hope it's just some spotting, but I feel for you as you're not sure what's going on. I'm surprised the doctors can't squeeze you in for a visit.
  • You have our permission to LIE and say that you are bleeding through a pad an hour.  What will they do--send you home without checking you out?

And positive vibes that this ends up being nothing.  A lot is going on inside there right now.  I've had two pregnancies---both with some scary, scary bleeding.   Obviously, one of them was okay!

AGREE!!!  Lie like a rug if it makes you feel better.  If you are not good at lying, get some of those little dinky cheepo pads that do not hold a teaspoon of liquid and put one on.

  • I hope it's just fluke bleeding, and not a loss!  Losses are so awful.  Please, though, since it's so soon, pay attention to whether any pain you have is localized more on one side or the other.  I've had two ectopics, and the second one almost killed me (that is not hyperbole.)  If you feel like you start cramping only one one side, call back and tell them, that should get you in!

Much love, and again, I hope it's just early pregnancy bleeding.

  • No advice about the bleeding but I am so sorry if this turns out to be a loss.

  • Sorry about the bleeding...

Smth is not right: they have to see you if you are bleeding after positive preg. test. Can you call another gyn?

  • So sorry and hope that you get some answers soon~  (I think the bloodwork request is a good idea...maybe your GP can even do it instead of your OB)
