Oops, I should've mentioned the study that has me concerned is the one that says "children who are at increased risk of celiac disease (such as children
with a parent who has type 1 diabetes) may be more likely to develop it
if gluten-containing foods are introduced prior to or after 4 to 6
months of age." ...read references to this a few places... https://www.thechildrenshospital.org/wellness/info/news/43464.aspx LO is almost 4 months, and I'm just very stressed about all of this, more than I probably should be, and I did not get a very confidence building answer by my pedi's nurse practitioner (she gave me what I believe are outdated rice cereal recs..use a bottle, helps sleep, etc)

Well, I am still going to start with rice cereal. I'm not going to stress over it. If DS develops the disease, then I guess I'll just deal with his diet like I deal with my own.

I have CD and we have a very strong family history of it. LO had to start rice cereal at 6 months because of reflux (it's in his bottle). I'll introduce rice cereal in the traditional manner at 6 months most likely, but I'm debating that. I might just skip it and go with avocado first.
This is a question for us as well. My Pedi said that if we don't introduce gluten between 4-6 months that even if LO doens't have CD she is likely to develop wheat allergies. I feel like its a big catch 22 but I guess we're just going to try it and see what happens. I hate the idea of making her sick but its really the only way to know. No one in my family has ever had CD before me and I didn't develop the symptoms of it until I was in my twenties so maybe she'll be ok? We'll definitely start with rice cereal and we'll make our own food but I will be worrying the whole time once we get into wheat products or cross contaminated foods.

Same for me. No one else in my (huge) family has it, and I didn't get it until my 20s. I know this is just a hurdle to jump, but I wish I wasn't so anxious about it!

Ditto that study. We introduced gluten at 5 months. I would not wait until 6+ months, since the research states it's best between 4-6 months.
Re: If you or DH have Celiac
I have it and I think I'm going to start with rice cereal. I am going to puree my own veggies and fruits from him after trying the rice cereal.

I'd like to say though, I'm not going to introduce solids until 6 months of age. I think this might help him not have an intolerance...I hope.
Pretty much this. Waiting until 6 months, starting with rice, and making our own purees.
