Trouble TTC

New here and first post...

My husband and I have been TTC since June of 2009.  It's getting very frustrating and I don't feel as though my doctor is offering much help.  After the holidays, I'm going to go to a new doctor to see if I feel any more comfortable with them.

My current doctor ran every type of blood test on me that she thought possible.  I found out about 8 months ago that I have hypothyroid. Well they put me on medicine and now my thyroid levels are normal.  Well I still wasn't getting my period monthly like I should so they put me on progesterone and it worked for a couple of months.  Now I'm still taking it 10 days out of the month and nothing is happening.  No period, no ovulation, no anything.

Has anyone been in this type situation?  I'm not sure if I should try and get on metformin or clomid...I guess I will just try and hold tight until I get in to see a new doctor.  Frustrating for sure though!  And I forgot to mention that I have a 5-year old son as well so it wouldn't be a first child for me.

  • Hi hon. First... I'm sorry you're dealing with this. IF is so devastating and causes so much emotional trauma.. it's just the worst. I do have hypothyroid, but being on meds hasn't really done anything for my cycles, though they were pretty normal before. I ovulate on my own (or I did before I started prednisone - but that's another story! :(). What I would say, is it's time for an RE, not an OB. you're looking at a year and a half now, so it shouldn't be any problem getting in. Some OBs are awesome, but the RE specializes in IF and should be more knowledgeable about whateved the situation turns out to be.

Were your other hormones normal besides TSH and progesterone? How high was your progesterone??

With no period at all I think it's time to have the bloodwork re-done, and probably an ultrasound. Just to rule out anything else that could be going on. If you do the clomid, make sure you're monitored!!

I know it's frustrating, but we're here for you. I hope you get to see the new doctor soon!!

  • Welcome!  I agree with PP, I think its time to see an RE.  They are better at getting you pregnant.  OBs are better at managing your pregnancy.

I wish you the best of luck and hope your stay here is short.
