NBR Question: Do you send out Christmas cards?

I haven't done this since we got married... heck, even sending out the wedding Thank You's was a major under-taking. I'm terrible with birthdays too. It's probably too late to start working on them now, but I'm starting to feel bad that I've never done this. I really wanted to this year if only to give our family members a new family pic with us and our LO... but then I feel like that's kind of self-absorbed! lol

Do you ladies send cards for special occasions? Do you think it's rude not to?

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

  • Its not self-absorbed to send out pics of your LO at all. Youre proud and want to show off!!! But each year I send out X-mas cards and a few "special" people will get a B-day card. But most of the people who's B-days I care about I would see for their Bday so I only do this for friends who live out of the area.

  • Most years I do send out Christmas cards. We don't have any family in the local area/same time zone so mailing out cards is a given really.

This year it was a joint announcement/christmas card. I've also been sending out heaps of Thank You cards for all the gifts we've been getting for our DD.

I don't think it is self-absorbed either. At least when I get a card I always feel touched and think it was nice that they thought of me/us. Now that we have a LO I think people would be disappointed if we didn't send pics.

  • We never have until this year, and we only rushed to get them done this year so everyone could have a picture of LO. Not self-absorbed at all :)

  • I hate getting cards in the mail. I appreciate the sentiment, but after a birthday or a holiday, I'm left with a pile of cards. I feel bad throwing away all those nice sentiments from people I love, but I also don't want to have a box full of cards sitting around my house. When my grandmother died, we discovered such a box, and then the emotionally difficult decision to keep or throw them away was passed down to us. Ugh.

Instead, my husband and I make a digital xmas card and email it or post it on our blog. If people really want to, they can print it out and put it on their refrigerator or toss it in the box with all the other cards they'll never look at again.

  • I did and no I do not think it is rude to not too. Last year my mom actually sent hers out after Christmas. She didn't have a picture she like of the whole family so we took one Christmas eve and she sent them out a few days later. She figured people would just think it got stuck in all the Christmas mail.

  • Nope.

Didn't send out birth announcements either. Everyone I care about has seen her or a picture of her as a result of communicating with me or our parents.

That's just not me. I like them when I get them in the mail, but it's not my thing.

  • Usually we do but this year sent out birth announcements instead. I love sending things in the mail and love getting cards in the mail.

  • We haven't done it every year since getting married, but we are doing them this year. We took a picture last night of the three of us, I uploaded it to tinyprints today, and I got the express shipping so they should be here by Friday. I also ordered our birth announcements as part of the same shipment. So it's not too late, but you should do it soon and plan to address envelopes this weekend! Smile
  • I'm sending out cards with the baby and the dogs on them.  i love getting photo cards!

I also love using my mac address book to print labels.  Makes the whole project sooooo  much easier.  It's not to late, I say do it!  Many places will do the 4x8 photo cards in an hour.  I know 1 hour photos in Targets and Walmarts near me do it
