Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone whose baby is NOT sitting up at 5 months?

Emma is tripoding-she'll sit by holding herself up with her hands on the boppy or the floor or her legs.  I think she's starting to get it and may be sitting up in the next few weeks, or so.  But anyone else have a five month old who isn't sitting up unassisted just yet?

  • My DD is not sitting up yet.  She isn't even sitting tripod yet.  It will happen when she is ready, whenever that might be!

  • My DD just barely started tripod sitting. I'm hoping in the next month or so she will start sitting a little better so I can use her convertible carseat. She is getting really heavy in her infant carrier, but I don't want to switch until she can sit up well enough to put her in a shopping cart. It breaks my back to wear her heffer butt, lol.

  • i think that's typically a 6/7 month milestone...
  • I posted something similar a couple days ago and it seems like many of our babies are not sitting unassisted yet.  Some are but most not yet!

  • DS just sat tripod the other day. He has been ahead on all the other milestones so I am not worried.... he will get it when he wants.
  • Five months is early for sitting up.

  • My DS does the tripod thing for a few seconds, and then topples over. I think he may start to sit up in a few weeks, but who knows?

  • Most babies are not sitting unassisted at 5 months according to babycenter.  About half can sit by 6 months and most can sit by 7 months.  DS just started sitting for about 30 seconds unassisted this week and he's almost 6 months.

  • My doc said btwn 5-7 months is normal.  My son is sitting up and he will be 4 months on the 20th, but he is a freak of nature.  I wish he would slow down because I feel like I don't have an itty bitty baby anymore  :-(
  • i doubt my child will ever sit. she just wants to crawl. she can't yet, but she REALLY REALLY wants to. especially in her crib. especially at 2:30am.
  • DS2 can tripod for several seconds if I distract him.  Otherwise he MUST STAND NOW!  DS1 isn't very interested though.

  • mine is no where near ready even for tripod. this seems early? he's been ahead with all other physical stuff.
  • My DD didn't sit unassisted consistently until she was over 9 months old.  It wasn't that she couldn't but until she learned how to go from tummy (she army crawled starting at 7.5 months) to sitting, she has absolutely no interest in it.  My doc was concerned but I knew she was fine, just uninterested.  She is still not a sit still type of gal.

  • I think 5 months would be considered early for sitting up. Mine started sitting for more than a few seconds at about 5.5 months. I have several mom friends with babies his age and he is one of the first to do it.

  • my daughter just turned 6 months last week and learned how to crawl in the same week. she can barely sit unassisted. we where just told to sit with her on the floor between our legs and strengthen her back muscles. but the pedi isnt concerned by it yet.
  • My LO isn't yet either.  Not even tri pod yet.
