daycare items

what do I need to send with E to daycare?

I know he needs bottles, diapers, formula and extra clothes but is there anything else I need to send with him? Or any little tips or things to make it easier or just things I need to know?

 thanks :)

Re: daycare items

  • A pacifier if he uses one and maybe a blanket if he is use to being swaddled.

First drop off is always hard...I always tell my moms the longer you stick around the harder it'll be for you to leave. I always welcome them to call if they want. Since I am a home daycare provider I will also send them a quick picture and that usually helps them through the day. Good luck!

  • Ditto pp - and I'd send a couple of pacifiers.  Helps to have 1 extra bottle made up too in case baby is extra hungry that day.

Written instructions on feedings and such - check with the daycare on what they will want.

My advice - don't try to work a full day the first day.  I had to pull over on my way to work because I cried my eyes out and sobbed so hard after I left M.  If you can schedule working half days for a couple of day to ease into it, that would help.

I'd also suggest starting back on a Thursday if you can.  2 days at work, not full days, and then a weekend to recover, lol.

    Good luck!

  • I dropped DS off at daycare for 2 days before I went back to work.  I let myself do errands during that time (groceries, post office, etc.), to keep my mind off of it (and it felt good to get some stuff done!), and I went and got him after a few hours when I was done.  It helped me get acquainted with the teachers before the "actual" drop off and I made sure I had all the right stuff.  The day of the actual drop off a lot easier b/c i knew what to expect. And it was a Friday, so I pretty much didn't do much at work, then picked him up and got to have the weekend with him!  :-)
  • Evan was a high-maintenance baby, so being the Type-A person that I am I wrote up a 2 page document that explained a lot of his quirks and what the teachers should expect. For example, don't expect a baby that sleeps all day. He hardly slept at all. I also had details about his feedings, behavior, reflux, etc.

I also had a sample schedule of what his day was like at home and told them this was not a strict schedule to follow, but an example to go by. This helped us all have a sense of what to expect.

I packed extra clothes, burp cloths, pacis, bottles, diapers/wipes, swaddleme, and a small blanket.

I kissed him goodbye and cried the entire way to work. I called once during the day to check on him and left work a little early that day to pick him up. Each day was a little easier that week.

  • I'm getting ready to do this myself, so I can wallow in misery with you.  :-(

I talked to his teachers and they said everything mentioned previously and bibs and a change of clothes.

Our sons were born on the same day!
