Swing Question - Age?

Good morning!

My sister gave us our swing (It's a Fisher Price Ocean Wonder) and she didn't still have the owner's manual. Does anyone know how young / what weight minimum there is for using a swing?

I've tried "Dr. Google" but all I can find is the maximum weight limits, no minimums.

TIA!

Re: Swing Question - Age?

  • I put Lainey in her love 'n' hug (graco) swing when she was a week or so old.. around 6 and1/2 pounds and she did fine. We couldn't find a weight limit either, but I'd say use common sense. If the baby looks too small for the item, than he/she probably is. : ))

  • We have the same one. I can double check the manual later but on the BRU site is says designed for use from birth to 25 pounds. Just use your own judgment on if it's not a good fit for your LO but you should be able to use it pretty much from the get-go.

  • Awesome - thanks so much girls! I don't know what I would do without this board to come to for questions!

  • Our swing says a minimum of 6lbs.  We asked our pedi b/c Sam was born weighing less than 6lbs and he said that if the swing doesn't sit the baby up to far it would be fine to use before he is 6lbs.  Ours is more of a cradle so we were fine using it.  The bouncy seat had the same minimum and we waited until after Sam was more than 6lbs to use it.

  • I actually bought a used swing. I was able to go to the Graco website and put in the model number and download the PDF of the users manual. I assume Fisher Price would have the same thing on their website.
  • Nathan started using his yesterday and he was four days old.  My mom had given us one of those cloth inserts for the carseat that I refuse to use the carset due to safety issues, but it work great in the swing! It's one with the padding around the head and some padding that goes down the back and by his legs.  It made it where he doesn't slide around and it cradles his little head.  We love our swing - it bought us an hour of extra nap time today!
