Hi ladies,
My DH and I are planning on moving to Houston within the next six months after completing some classes. We live in Atlanta, but the DH family all lives in TX. I have visited a couple of times, but I am at a loss as far as actually living there. I wanted to see if you all could give me some advice as to good areas to buy a house? the job market? daycare cost and anything else.
TIA
Re: Moving to Houston
Welcome!
Houston is HUGE - so if you have any inkling whatsoever of what area you will be looking into, then that will help a lot. Also, I am not sure if any of you are transferring jobs or looking for new jobs - letting us know a general line of work you are in can help us give you some job recs. Most of the "typical" jobs are downtown, Galleria area, Westchase, etc. - but depending on the field, there are other areas, as well. (For instance, if you are a teacher, obviously, there are schools everywhere).
I would say full time daycare ranges anywhere from $700-$1,500+ a month - just depends on where you are and what you want to spend. Again - a lot of it deals with what location you will be living, as well. Houston is very much a commuter city, so what area you work will probably determine a radius of where you will live, as well.
Katie or Kingswood? I believe those are the areas that I've heard my DH mention. He is going to school for IT if that helps.
Thanks again!
Katy is on the way West side - farther from downtown, but closer to say, Galleria or Westchase area. Kingwood is Northeast and 59 is typcially a good freeway to come into downtown on. Not sure about IT jobs, since it's not my field. If you are looking for houses, you can use www.har.com to help narrow down your area.
