I know you are supposed to wait until the LOs are 12 months to switch over to cow's milk, but did anyone try their LO a few weeks early to see how they would do? Or is it okay to try a sip or two a few weeks early?
I just this week started adding a little to C's bottles. I'm hoping not to buy anymore formula after we finish what is currently in the pantry. My ped is OK with starting now.

At DS 9 mo. appt last week, our pedi actually said to start transitioning him now (thought is to have him on milk by 12 mos). I've just been giving him a sippy cup w/milk at one meal. I give him water in the cup at the other 2 meals, and am continuing to nurse him as normal.
I was BFing and supplementing w/formula. Since I wasn't ready to stop BFing and we had quite a bit of formula left, we didn't start until her 1 year appt (which was a week and a half after her bday). But, I would have not hesitated to start earlier if circumstances were different.

Since I had to wean at 11 months for my surgery, the pedi said it was fine to switch to milk (soy in our case) at that time rather than mess with formula for such a short time.
I am thinking of starting this week. Sydney been slowly weaning herself off the bottle anyway. She usually only drinks about 2 oz with her breakfast (holds her bottle in her high chair). She doesn't get any formula with her lunch. Her only "real" bottle is her night time bottle. I am going to start decreasing that little by little. I guess I can start trying whole milk with her breakfast and see how that goes. I really hope she gets the hang of a sippy soon. She dribbles as much as she drinks. We have several kinds. It's her mouth that leaks, not the sippy
I started transitioning Aaron at 11 months. I mixed whole mix in with his formula little by little. Say for a 6 oz bottle, I put 5 oz of formula and 1 oz of milk. Gradually I increased the milk and decreased the formula. By 1 year, he was entirely on whole milk.
He drank about 12-16 of milk per day until the last month. Now he probably only gets about 2-3 oz total but that's because he's lazy and won't drink it out of a sippy. I'm making progress there, but I dropped the bottle cold turkey 2 weeks ago and have just upped his yogurt/cream cheese intake to make up for the decrease in milk.
At Gracie's 9 month appt. we were told 1 year. I already put whole milk in her cereal and have given her some from time to time. I just bought more formula because I have a feeling he is going to tell me to do half/half until her system gets used to it.

We started giving whole milk along with BM about two weeks before Matt's first birthday. So he was on whole milk exclusively by his first birthday. I figured there is no magic switch that happens when they are one.

This. One year isn't an exact age, some babies can handle it sooner.
I started at 11 months, I did 25% whole milk and 75% formula for the first week, then 50/ 50 for the 2nd week, then 75% milk/ 25% formula for the third week, then 100% milk for the 4th week. By 12 months Adrian was off the formula completely, which was great. No problems at all, he took to it really well and I think easing him into it was helpful.
