LO's reaction to Santa

If you've taken your LO's to see Santa what was their reacation.  Kaybee, I see from your siggy pic both B & C seemed just fine, really cute pic BTW.

John was find while I was holding him, he even smiled when Santa showed him the toy train he was holding.  but the second I put him down and stepped away, the pout lip came out and he was on the verge of tears.  That's a picture to save for future girlfriends!

Re: LO's reaction to Santa

  • Brendon loved Santa when he was a baby but he was also 3 months old. Last year, he wasn't really sure of him(stranger anxiety) but sat on his lap while Santa showed him little picture cards. This year, because of last year, we had my niece and nephew go first. She loves Santa and he has no fear :) Didn't matter because Brendon was so excited about him the moment he saw him. He was very eager to sit on his lap and talk to him. Cecilia was fine with it as well. She loves people, though. She was really busy looking at everything around her rather than paying attention.

We talked about Santa before going. Brendon had also just watched the Phineas and Ferb Christmas special on DVD(it's Santa heavy) so I think he recognized him and figured if it was okay with his peeps P&F, it was okay with him :)

I think with most kids John's age, it's stranger anxiety. I think some kids get freaked out by the beard as well.

  • I am still trying to decide if / when we will do this. Sean is a complete and total goofball around us and at daycare, but the second he is around someone unfamiliar he is Mr. Aloof. I know he would freak if I put him on Santa's lap then walked away.

  • We just went and watched Santa for awhile yesterday.  We may or may not go back to actually sit on his lap.

  • DD did not like him last year.  I think we tried 3 different Santas (one @ a playgroup, one on a firetruck & one @ bass pro) and all 3 were fails.  I tried "free" Santas and didn't bother w/ the mall Santa.  This year she asked to see Santa, and while we didn't get the best smile out of her, she told him what she wanted and was excited to go up and talk to him.  She wants to go again.

  • Bass Pro's Santa is free- you get a 4x6 and the only way to buy more prints is to go online.

Our parents group does a holiday playgroup and Santa comes to that and does the whole lap picture thing- they ask for a donation of $3 per kid, but that's also to cover food, and they have 2 kiddie singer musician performing as well, so it's really cheap.

Also some fire departments do "Santa runs" where Santa goes out on a firetruck and then stops and does visits w/ neighborhood associations.  The last 2 years our parents' group did our evening family holiday party/happy hour and had a Santa come this way...

  • We took Dylan the Tuesday after T-day.  He was fasinated by Santa!  He's never been around someone with a beard & kept staring at it, lol!  He did smile & looke at the camera long enough for them to snap a few pics.  I don't have a pic to show, we didn't think to bring our camera :(

  • My FIL dresses up as Santa for his local fire/police dept kiddo parties.  So we took advantage of the suit when we visited for Thanksgiving.  :)  I'll AW a few.

  • We went to a Breakfast with Santa with my sister, niece and nephew and she was fine with Santa.  She sat on his lap long enough for me to snap a good picture or two.  However, the following day when we went to the mall Santa with DH's sisters kid it was a different story.  We got the usual crying on Santa's lap picture but I truly think it was because it was her nap time and she was too interested in animated animal display on the other side of Santa that they had set up.
  • I'll have to wait until tonight to see the picture of John and Santa. We haven't taken A to see Santa yet. Although at the Daycare Christmas party, they will have DC DH dressing up as Santa, so I'm going to try and get pictures that day.

  • E did not like Santa last year but this year, she did better.  We sat her next to him first and then she sat on his lap.  We talked Santa up for almost a week before going.  We actually tried going earlier but Santa didn't come to Kenilworth until after Thanksgiving.

  • My 10 month old DD saw two Santa's - the first at Clark's Elioak Farm where there was no one there and they let me just take free pictures instead of paying the $2.00 picture fee (I took about 50).  DD was very cautious and guarded but didn't cry.  At Columbia Mall, same reaction... sort of checked Santa out and then sat there calmly.  Didn't crack a smile, but didn't freak out either.
