Not fun milestone...

So Brenna threw up last night for the first time ever...I heard her moving around and heard an unusual noise and thank god I looked at the monitor and saw a blob of something in her crib...I ran in there and sure enough there it was....and she was slapping it with her hands! Lovely!  Aside from being a little surprised, she wasn't overly upset and once I got her to the changing table, she was totally fine.  No fever, no crying, nothing.  We got her and the bed cleaned up and she went right back to sleep.

Anyone else experience this?  If she doesn't have the flu, what would make her throw up?

I tried giving her a few bites of pasta and a meatball last night for dinner, but she hardly ate any of it and I switched back to baby food...

Re: Not fun milestone...

  • Weird enough, the first time Fiona threw up was after having ravioli. It was the same with her, no fever, no crankiness.. Once we cleaned her up, she went back to sleep. It must've been too rich for her. Needless to say, she's still not a pasta fan.

  • It could have been to the acidity of the tomato sauce (assuming you gave her some). Aaron has spit up after too much sauce. He hasn't ever thrown up yet.

  • Oh no! Poor Brenna. We have yet to reach this milestone (knocking on wood). Glad she is feeling okay and there aren't any signs of anything bigger. Maybe she was just a little too full?

I was hoping you would see this and respond, Tara!  I was telling Mike this AM that I remember you posting something very similar.  Weird.   She also had a major poopy diaper so I'm guessing something didn't sit well with her...she seemed a little lethargic this AM but I had to wake her up for daycare so I think she was still a little sleepy...

  • Aw, poor Brenna!!  Glad she seems fine.  Too funny - Ellie loves pasta with red sauce, and she likes her marinara full flavored!  Of course, she doesn't get cheese yet, so maybe that cuts the richness, but not the acidity.  Hope she has a good day!
  • Back in the "Bug parts in the powdered Simulac" days, C had a bad bout of throwing up in his crib a couple of times.  He was perfectly fine, but when he laid down, it'd all come back up.   Since Mommy has a delicate stomach as well, I was pretty worried about that.  But then the recall came out and it all made sense.

He wasn't playing in it, tho.  Crying up a storm because it's come out his nose, too, and that burned, I'm sure.  But he settled down pretty quickly.

Now at normal mealtimes, he still throws up once in a while.  Very low gag reflex if he gets any big chunky food item in the back of his throat, he spits up pretty good.  UGH.

  • It could have been the new food. I hope she is feeling better! Glad you were able to see it and attend to it.

I am now 100% convinced that the video monitor is the way to go...I was a total doubting Thomas....and I know they're expensive, that our parents raised us w/o even regular monitors, etc...but I am SO glad we have it for this reason.  I would've let her probably fuss a few minutes, before going in there....but was able to see she had gotten sick.  It was worth every penny!

  • Maddie did this once in the middle of the night. I think she was about 15 months old. Nothing was wrong otherwise, no explanation, but the she hasn't done it since. I hope it's a one time thing for you too.

  • Sienna is a BIG PUKER! Every time she is getting close to cutting a tooth it happens. I am telling you I probably have cleaned up more puke than all the ladies here combined. Thank God her room isn't carpeted, I'd have ripped it out already. I've already thrown out a couple pillows.

During teething, I have to be careful not to give her too much to drink or eat at a time. I think that along with the saliva build-up puts her over the edge. She will also throw up if she gets very upset, which thank God isn't that often. She never has any other symptoms like fever or crying.

Does Brenna have many teeth yet?
