Can you guys talk me down from my ledge?
My baby is measuring in the fifth percentile. He's only 5lbs, 9 oz. I have to go for another ultrasound at the hospital tomorrow...anyone have any experience with this? All other stuff seemed ok, fluid levels, actual baby movement, etc. The doctor didn't really tell me what could be causing it...he wants to see the results of the other u/s first.
Any similar experiences would be helpful...

Re: not so great dr's appt...:(
Our appt today said Abby is 5 lbs 10 oz and our Dr told us that she's in the 11th percentile. Fluid levels and everything else were fine, she said that they really only would worry at this point if the baby was in the 5th percentile or lower. I'm wondering why my Dr said ours is in the 11th and your Dr said yours is in the 5th, considering we are pretty close to the same gestational age?
Anyway, not sure if it helps or not, but our baby's pretty close to the same size and age as yours, and she is fine. My son was 5 lbs 13 ozs when he was born in 1993 and he's 5'11" now, so they grow

First off hugs! Second I just dealt with this. My Lo had what they called IUGR. It pretty much ment that she stopped growing inside my belly. She was healthy, great levels, great heartbeat she just wasn't growing at the rate that she should be in my belly. 12th% at 35 weeks and 4 pounds 6 oz. They kinda ran us around a little because they don't really know what causes it (they are running test on my placenta now). I was induced three weeks early because of this. Now that she is outside my belly she is thriving!!!! It is amazing. I don't know if this is what is going on with you guys but it sounds like it might be. Keep positive and trust your Dr.If you need to talk feel free to PM me

As PP said, those measurements aren't very accurate. Alec was measuring small towards the end of my pregnancy. My midwife was concerned; I had 2 growth ultrasounds and 2 NST's the week he was born. They said he was small, but the fluids and his movement were fine. He ended up being a shocking 8lbs 7oz. None of the measurements were even close to being correct.
My t&p's are with you!
This was us as well. Our baby was IUGR and was measuring in the less than 5th percentile. She was measuring 4 pounds 9 ounces a few days before she was born and was born 5 pounds 3 ounces. Usually IUGR babies are just fine. Now that she is out she is growing excellently and quickly.
Ah, I knew I would find comfort here
. Your stories are very calming. It's good to know that if worse came to worse, and they decide to induce to make him come out, that he will most likely thrive in the outside world.
Whew. Ok.
My follow up question is, are there any risks for babies who are IUGR? Is there anything that as a new mom you would have to look out for?
DS was born at 5lbs 5oz and was perfectly healthy. Nothing was wrong. He was just a little guy.
Some people just make small babies.
No experience or advice but stay positive and hang in there! It's good they are making sure everything is ok and following up with you. Keep us posted!!

I know that they had us prepared for some respratory issues when she was born, but she came out perfectly healthy just really small. The Dr. told me that alot of times babies that are unders tress like that come out with more developed lungs and stuff because their bodies had to work harder in the womb
As far as development, they have said she might hit milestones a little bit later but they forsee no issues at all. Not that she is outside my belly she is gaining weight like a champ. Honestly looking at her you would never know that anything was ever wrong in the first place.

This exactly. I'm sure your LO is going to be a happy and healthy little baby. Just try to stay positive and I'm sure when he is an outside baby he will start gaining weight. My little guy is getting quite chubby. The growth u/s can be off in weight 1-2lbs up or down.
