My Boss told me that he did this for one of his cats after it kept getting UTI's like Zero has now.
So I had to look it up. I don't know if I could do that to Zero's manhood, bad enough his little pom poms were snipped 3 yrs ago but now take away his thing..

Autumn we give our kitty this food. He used to have lots of problems with UTIs and crystals in his urine and this has helped a lot.
There is also this food. We've never ordered it because as you can see it's kind of pricey (though the person who shared this with me said they often have coupons online) but an old coworker said it's super high strength prescription formula and since being on it, her cats have been great.
I had a male cat years ago that had his penis removed due to crystals in his bladder. Eventually his bladder was so damaged that we had to manually express his urine. We were cruel in hindsight, it would have been kinder to put him down.
More recently I had a male cat who was diagnosed with FUS (which is now FLUTD I think) and he did amazing on a diet designed for urinary health. I fed him the Purina One version. If I ever have another male cat, he'll be on that food from kittenhood and I won't neuter him until he is closer to a year old. My vet believes that early neuter in cats (and dogs) isn't a good idea. He wants their penises to be adult sized prior to neutering. I very much see his logic in that a fully grown penis is less likely to be blocked than a puppy sized one.
Random thoughts aside, I highly suggest some form of a urinary health diet for your Zero going forward. I fed both of my cats that diet even though the female was fine in the pee department and my vet was fine with that. I also added a can of wet food a day for them to share to help make sure they were getting enough fluids.

Right now he's on the vet food that is suppose to disolve crystals in his penis/ UT area.
But I will look into getting this food also for later use.
Zero was netured 2 years ago, he just turned 4 in March.
He's named Zero because he's all white, and deaf.
Autumn, my cat had this surgery about 12 years ago. He kept getting UTIs, and was blocking up with urinary crystals. One night he was in the emergency vet clinic for the third time in 4 months, and he CRASHED. Kidneys were failing, he was on death's door. He was only 4 years old. The only way to save his life was to prevent him from blocking again -- every time he blocked it was bad, and they almost lost him. So, I had it done. They cut it off (yes, horrible - but I do think it *hurt* me (and my brother, at the time! LoL) more than it hurt him), then the re-routed his urethra and made a new hole for him to urinate through. They even saved the prepuce (YIKES!) and re-attached it, mainly for cosmetic purpose (I am not kidding, the vet actually said this), but also to keep the dribbling of urine down to a minimum. It worked. Morgan is 16 years old, and never did block again. The surgery itself is hard on them, not to mention expensive, but it was totally worth it. I definitely saved on all the vet bills from him being treated in the ER, plus, I have no doubt it saved his life. I have pictures that we took after the surgery, though, that would definitely give even the least squeamish among us pause...... Morgan is, for all intents and purposes, a female kitty now -- he has no "pom poms" and no "thing"
- he doesn't mind though. Good thing he had a unisex name.
