TTC after 35

confused and hope someone here knows the answer

My RE said today that when AF comes, I'll have to go on birth control pills for a few weeks-before IVF cycle in January?  Anyone know why?  Don't feel like I got an answer I understand despite asking-seems to defeat purpose.  I keep wishing that AF will not come and I can get a BFP and leave RE in the memmories of the past.

  • Sure, I got this one.

BCPs help your body go back to a set starting point.  So, in other words, this gives your RE a blank canvas to start working.  I think (not sure on this one) but I believe they also help rev up your ovaries since they essential put them to rest for the 3 weeks or so you have to take them.  I know it sounds silly but...

    what she said.

I found it annoying especially since BCP make me a raging lunatic but gotta do what the Dr says.

  • yep I was told the same.  rest, clean slate, cysts.  I actually took my first pill today!  We're in this IVF *** together, girl!  But I agree, taking birth control does sound counterproductive to our goals...or rather counter-REproductive.  hee-hee  Good luck!
About me: A pixie in the city, 41, TTC #1 since May 2010, married 18 years. Diagnosed with, surgically removed, endometrioma Aug.2010 Sept 2010 IUI #1=BFN, Oct=cyst/bfn, Nov 2010 IUI #2 = bfn. Had to postpone IUI #3 b/c of a cyst natural=BFN. Skipped IUI #3, decided to go for IVF. Found/removed uterine polyps Jan 2011. IVF cancelled, no follicles. IVF #2: 3 great embies put in on Easter Sunday = BFN. Hoping for another chance at IVF in July. TTC is NOT for wimps. http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ticker/2fab90/ttc.png
