Pregnant after IF

PCOS and early GTT?

I just had my first u/s and I'm 7w2d and the RE wants me to go in this week for a 1 hour GTT - I thought this wasn't done until much later in PG. She actually didn't mention it to me, but it was on my d/c paperwork. She also wants me to do one after 12 weeks when i'll stop the metformin.

I'm not IR - I had a 2 hour GTT during my IF testing and my results were super normal.

Anyone else do one really early? I don't know how I'm going to get that orange liquid down while I'm nauseous.

Re: PCOS and early GTT?

  • My OB ordered one at 9 weeks for me, although I didn't get around to it until 11 weeks. They said it was because of my weight. I also had great blood sugar testing prior to ivf. Not sure how PCOS plays into it. Hang in there and congrats on your u/s today!

  • I had an early one but it wasn't until yesterday.  I'm have to do another one between 28 - 30 weeks.  I don't think I would have been able to stomach it at 7w2d.

  • I wasn't IR either before being pregnant even though I have PCOS and I am not overweight but they made me do one and well you know how that turned out. Tongue Tied

I couldn't keep down the orange one but they gave me a lemon lime I was able to keep down for long enough to do the test.

It is not fun but I am glad they caught mine so early.  I started doing the finger pricking at home last night.

It is better to know sooner rather than later. And I am overweight and PCOS so I guess its a good precaution to be monitored, but man I don't know how I'm going to stomach that stuff. When I did the 2 hour in July it was the orange stuff, I'm going to see if they have lemon/lime - the orange was nasty.

Hopefully I'll have the results by the end of the day tomorrow.

How is the finger pricking going?

  • I have non-IR PCOS, was never on Met, and I got tested at the same time as everyone else (26 weeks).  I failed the one hour GTT, but passed the three.

  • Due to my extensive family history of diabetes, my OB ordered the 1 hour for me when I had my first appointment with her (I was 10 weeks at the time). Fortunately, I was able to keep the orange drink down, but I felt completely awful for the rest of the day. Good luck! Lemon-lime things sounded much more appealing to me than orange things early on, so hopefully that will help.

  • I stayed on Met until 12 weeks so they didn't test me during that stage.  I made my OB do an early one at 16 weeks because of my levels when they did my IF testing.  I passed the first time, I did another at 28 weeks when everyone else does it and failed that time.

Personally, I think 7 weeks is a bit early but I do think it's very smart to do early testing with pcos.  The sooner you know the better so you can avoid complications.  But ask them about it if you're unsure.

  • Little late to respond but I have PCOS and IR and am slightly overweight so they had me do the 1 hour at 18 weeks and my results came back borderline so I did the 3 hour at 20 weeks and passed.  I wanted to know early on if I had it to get things under control.  I could still develop it so I will probably be taking the 1 hour again around the time everyone else does.

  • hmmmm my doc didn't mention anything about it. My next appt is the nt scan. At my appt last week, my OBGYN said to "stay on the met for now".

  • Thanks everyone...turns out it was a mistake. She wants me to do it at 14-15 weeks after at least one week off the met - I'll go off around 12 weeks. Yay for not having to brave the drink with m/s.
