MoMs with older twins

Did you have your children share a room?  If so for how long?  I have twin girls who share a room.  They are 11 months old.  The reason I ask is because I was wondering if they will always want to share a room or at leat until they are in their teens.  My husband and I are looking at houses and looking at the bedroom situation.  The thing is I have an older daughter and parents who come from out of town and stay with us every other month.  Ideally we would be looking for a 5 bedroom house.  Unfortunately I do not want to spend 400,000 +  for the house of my dreams.  We are keeping our options open to finding a home that needs the basement finished (egress windows).   This way we can make a room for my parents down there.  I was just wondering if your twins wanted to be separated or stay together?

  • My nearly 5 yo b/g twins still share a room.  We do have another bedroom for them, but haven't separated them yet.  We're going to be building a house so I figure that we'll do it by then if not before.  They'll be 6 by that time.  We'll see...

  • I've been wondering the same thing.  We're planning to have our girls share a room for at least a few years.  We're also house-hunting right now and would need a 5-bedroom just for each of our kids to have their own room.  Unfortunately, 5-bedrooms are hard to come by, and are much more expensive than 4-bedrooms.

  • My 5 year old boy/girl twins shared a room until they were almost a year... we moved at that time and separated them since this house had 2 kids' rooms painted for a boy and a girl.  Had we stayed in our old house, they'd still be sharing a room and that would have been fine with me.

I'm expecting twin boys and they will always have to share a room... we have no more bedrooms!

  • My girls are three and they share. I don't really see a day coming where they don't want to share. We're looking at a bigger home just in case but I doubt in the next five years or so they are going to want to be separated.

  • as long as we stay in the house we live in now, the girls will share a room forever...
  • kids will deal with sharing a room if that is what they are given in life... i shared a room with my sister (5 yrs older than me) for a LONG time... that's what we got - i don't think it's something to worry about, personally.  In some situations with sleep problems, sure, splitting them might be better... but you can certainly have them share forever if you really want them to. I know twin boys i grew up with who shared until they graduated college (went to college together and lived in the same dorm room)....
  • My girls are 5 and share a room, mostly for space reasons.  We have a 3 BR, and my husband works from home and needs an office.  But at this point, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to be apart.  So I'm not going to worry about it until much later.

  • my half sisters are ID twins and they shared a room until they were about 10. then they wanted their own. one even took a significantly smaller room just to have her own space. but i agree w pp, if there is no option then they will deal with it, many siblings (not twins) share a room forever because they have to.
  • My goal was to wait until they requested being separated but we're probably going to do it sooner.  Max is constantly waking Luke in the morning and Luke needs all the sleep he can get!  We have the same issue when it comes to visiting family (we need a guest room).  So, I think this is what we're going to do - Max will sleep in a queen bed so his room will have that and then we'll put a bunk bed in Luke's room (when they're ready for that) so Max will have someplace to sleep when we have visitors.
