Sleepy Wrap vs. Moby Wrap (and Ergo Carrier)

Does anyone have a preference between Sleepy Wraps and Moby Wraps? I'm 5'2 and I've heard that the Sleepy Wrap may be a better option for me. I was also interested in the Ergo Baby Carrier, but I heard it was not good for infants and I should wait until they can easier put their legs out the side and wait until the carrier hits behind their knee.

Thoughts??

Re: Sleepy Wrap vs. Moby Wrap (and Ergo Carrier)

  • I have the Sleepy Wrap (haven't tried the Moby), but I LOVED it the first 6 months.  I'm about the same height and it was great, especially in the NB stage where all he wanted to do was sleep and be held.  I wore it everywhere, walking the dogs, around the house, at the mall.  Whenever he was fussy and had been fed and changed, I would pop him in it and he would be asleep within a few minutes.  I don't know about the Ergo, I haven't tried it either.  The key with the Sleepy (and probably the Moby) is to tie it really tight against your body when you do

  • I have an ergo and used the newborn insert with DS and it was great and is great now w/o the insert- we just started doing the back carry.

He wasn't a tiny baby though- he was  8 lbs 2 oz and 21 inches long @ birth.  The newborn insert costs the same as a moby wrap though.

We have a bjorn and a mei tai as well and he did better in the mei tai as a newborn than he does now- I feel like he's at this inbetween stage where size wise he is big, but he doesn't have the muscle control to be in the mei tai...

  • I know the Ergo has an infant insert and knew someone who used it all the time.  I have an Ergo but I didn't get it until E was 12 months.  I love the Ergo!!!

  • I have a Becco, which is very similar to an Ergo.  I love it.  I would recommend signing up and attending the baby wearing workshop at Greenberries in Columbia.  It is free and they have lots of carriers that you can try out and decide what works for you.  It is run by two moms and not by the store...
