Postpartum Depression

If you have been on your meds for awhile...

...have you ever just stopped for a few days? If so, how did it go?

I stopped over Thanksgiving because I left them at home while visiting family and there was no way I could afford to reorder all of them again. So I went from Tuesday to Sunday without them.

The result is that I was able to focus again. I could actually get my work done. I didn't feel so jittery, like I was about to jump out of my skin. I can sleep through the night without anything to help me get to sleep or stay asleep. To be sure it wasn't a fluke I stayed off the medicines. My work ability has improved drastically. I actually met my deadlines these last two weeks. However, I have noticed a slow increase in the blue moods (possibly related to LO being CONSTANTLY sick and facing the holidays alone with just LO).

I realize I still need some medicine but is it just that I had the wrong meds to begin with (Lexapro, Wellbutrin transitioning to Stratera, Clonapan, and a sleep aid) ? I felt great those first 2 weeks without the meds but this last week has been hard. Or should I give it longer to find out if this is just a bad week? I need to decide soon because this next week is the last the clinic will be open before the holidays...

  • Sounds like you are on the wrong meds and should talk to your psych to figure out which ones to add back.

  • Sounds to me like you need to re-evaluate your drugs with your psychiatrist.

& since I've been on Klonopin, I'll give my assenine opinion that maybe you're ready to go off it.  When I came off Klonopin, I felt JUST like you described - less of a fog, more focus, more energy, ability to get things done.  Klonopin surpresses so much of that in you when you're on it.

So maybe you still need the SSRI, but the anxiety meds aren't needed.  Which is a GOOD thing! :)
