I am really late with this birth story! Last Tuesday, I felt like my contractions were a little stronger than they had been.I didn?t really pay too much attention to this because I?d been having somewhatpainful contractions for about 3 weeks. I even made up a rule that I wouldn?teven time them until I couldn?t speak through them anymore. Well, as it turns out they actually did get quite painful. Very early in the morning, DH finally convinced me that itwas time to start timing them just in case. As it turns out, they were veryregular at 5 minutes apart. However the last three weeks left me unconvinced. He continued to time them and once they were 3 minutes apart and I had to breath through them, we decided to go in just in case.
It?s a good thing we did because when I was in the bathroom changing into my hospital gown my water broke! I was stunned because I really thought this was going to be another false alarm. I yelled out to DH to let him know and he paged the nurse. She came in and confirmed it was my water and did a quick exam and let me know I was 3 cm dilated. They also did an ultrasound and let me know that she was head down but face up. I was warned that if she didn?t flipit might be a difficult labor.
We called our parents right away to let them knowit was go time. My doctor stopped by to check my progress and I was 4-5 cm dilated. At this point, the back labor was killing me. The contractions were so strong and I was having a lot of trouble getting through them so I asked for an epidural. I was so relieved when I got it! Unfortunately, something was wrongwith it and an alarm kept going off. My nurse had to turn it off while wewaited for the anesthesiologist to come back and check things out.
It didn?t take long for me to be able to feel everything again and I was not too thrilled about that. After awhile (felt like an eternity) the doctor came and said something about the tube being twisted. He fixed it and turned the epi back on. My nurse did another check and let me know I was 6 cm dilated.
Very shortly, I felt like I needed to poop. I know that that?s usually a sign that it?s time to push, but I had literally just been checked and I was convinced that I needed to poop. Actually, first I thought Ineeded to fart (TMI) because I had been a touch gassy throughout labor. I sent DH out to get the nurse and I tried to take care of the gas while he was gone. The nurse let me know she wanted to check my progress just in case. I kept swearing up and down it was just poop and I didn?t need to push. I didn?t want everyone to get excited. Well she checked me and announced I was fully dilated! I was shocked! I went from 6 to 10 in about 30 minutes. She let me know that the baby had most likely flipped, thus causing the rapid progress.
I ended up having to wait another 30 minutes for my doctor to make it to the hospital through rush hour traffic. He finally made it and after 26 minutes of painful and draining pushing, they handed her to me! As she came out, I heard my doctor remark that she was still sunny-side-up and they were all shocked I was able to push out such a big baby (9 lbs 2 oz) in that position so quickly! They didn?t know how determined I was to hold her! I couldn?t stop crying when they handed her to me!
She has been doing great so far! She sleeps a lot and makes the funniest faces! We got really lucky because she tends to clusterfeed during the day and sleep in 4 hour chunks at night. My son is a little angry with us, but we?ll get there! At least he loves her!

YAY!! COngrats momma good job! SHe is beautiful!!
I can relate with the sunnyside up. My MW tried to flip her..ugh the back labor was awful. However when I got to the hospital I was 6 cm and determined to do no drugs. Well I made it through but DD was 6 weeks early and small.
You feel like you live on the couch BFing all day! A lot of movies.

Way to go on pushing out your posterior baby! Congratulations!
DD was sunny side up too and it was a lot of work to push her out! Your story gives me hope that even if the next one is posterior, it will probably be easier and a shorter pushing stage being that it's #2.

I just had to say congratulations on your beautiful baby girl and what a gorgeous name you chose...of course I am totally biased as this is my DD's name as well. I love the name Charlotte though, it's classic. Congrats again!
