How would you spell this name?

DH and I like the name "Rylynn" because it is a combination of both of our middle names.  We are not too crazy about the spelling Rylynn because we think there are too many y's.  I also don't like Rylan because it is pronounced differently (at least in every other part of the country but the South...were we are lol).

So spelling options:  Rilynn, Rhlynn, Rhilynn

DH likes Rhlynn because my middle name is Rhyan.  He just chose to drop the y because.  I'm not sure if that spelling equates "Rylynn" though.  It does to me because I know what he is referring to but what do you all think?  Which spelling do you like best?

  • This name looks and sounds made up.

If forced to choose a spelling I would go with "Rilynn", I agree that the extra 'y' is odd looking.

  • How about Rilyn? I feel like it's too many consonants with the 2 nn's at the end of lynn.

  • Maybe it's a generation thing because I don't think it's a weird name at all. NMS, but I grew up with a bunch of rilynnes. No clue how they spelled it though . . .

    https://www.babynames.com/name/RYLAN

That spelling makes the most sense to me.

Because it's after your middle name, I don't think it would be too youneak to ah an h.

    Rhylan.

IDK. I like it. But I'm young, so that might be why.

  • Personally, I'd say Rilyn .... no extra n.
Cute name tho! But a toughie to spell! :P
  • REALLY funny you posted this! I was just trying to post a poll with this name in it! I like the name Rylan for a boy but if it was for a girl I would change the spelling to Rhylen or Rilynn...hope this helps!
  • It does sound made up, but oh well. Name your kid what you want. Just don't name your boy Wolfe if you have a history of hairy men in your families. ;)

Anyway... If I had to spell it for my kid, I'd do Rhylin. Or Rhylen. Practice writing the variations you're considering in cursive because someday, you'll be writing letters to teachers to excuse sickness. If you can't tell what it says, they won't be able to tell either.

  • My God daughter is named Rilyn as well. I love it. Her momma decided to keep it simple as her name is original enough.

I think it is a generation thing too.  I am 23 and the name is not weird to me either.   Who knows though, we are totally on the fence and may just name her Rhyan. lol

Its your baby and if you want to"make up" name then go for it. Why does every name need to be spelled like others think it should. It a new age and fun and unique names are being "made up" all the time.  I think it creates a diversity that is needed in this world! I love the Rylynn. I got it completley. maybe try RyLynn... idk! If you like it the rest will follow and it'll be a household name in your family in  no time!

This.  I like Rylan personally, but depends if it is for a boy or a girl.  The i versions looks like a more feminine spelling to me.

  • All of your spelling choices look very awkward to me.  How is the pronunciation of Rylynn different from Rylan?  I naturally want to pronounce both as Ri-lyn.  Your DH's choice of Rhlynn is really really weird.  It looks like it should be said "Rlin" like all one syllable, because the h does not make an "i" sound IMO.  If it were me, I would just keep looking for a different name or spell it Rylan.
