Do you let LO snack in car seat while driving?

Just curious. It scares me that she may choke, but it seems like she would love to snack while we drive. Do you let LO eat while on the move?

  • I do know that DS is front facing. I give him things that I know he doesnt have issues with and dessolve easily
  • Loading the player...
  • We do. I just make it easy snacks and keep a sippy of water on hand. She doesn't need to snack too often but on occasion we let her eat in the car.
  • DD snacks if we are going anywhere besides running errands in town.
  • No, but it's because we don't allow food in the car for anyone, ever, period (only water). I hate the mess and the smells, so DD will never know what she's missing.

  • Not usually, no. If we are going to be out for longer than 15-30 minutes though I will bring his sippy with water.

That said, on long roadtrips (like the 7 hour one to our hometown) he occasionally is passed a snack ... although then only things that will dissolve in his mouth or are tiny.  I am still terrified of the choking risk.

  • I let him snack on all kinds of things in the car, but I didn't until just a couple of months ago. Usually, though, he has his PB crackers, donut holes on long trips, and milk. I do worry about choking some, but I know these are things he's pretty good at eating without issue.
  • Not unless we're in the car for more than an hour and nearing a mealtime and can't stop yet. So almost never. Around town trips are almost always less than 30 minutes at the most and they dont NEED food during that time.

  • She gets a mum mum if hungry but it isn't often

  • No.

  • Not unless DH and I are both in the car and one of us is sitting in the back with DS.

Same here. I do keep an emergency snack and bottled water in the car though just in case.

  • No, but I often give him a sippy of water.  If he's hungry but we don't have time for a snack at home, I give him a YoBaby smoothie (like drinkable yogurt) in a sippy.  No mess and he loves them.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • I guess this is my "bad parent" area. I let him snack in the car all the time. I don't just give him snacks every time we're in the car but if he's hungry I hand it over. Same with drinks. I eat in the car too. In fact, I've eaten in my car twice already and I just got it yesterday. I'm in the car all the time.
  • Puffs in the munchkin container seriously save my car rides. I buy them by the case because more than half end up all around the back seat. It is a mess but fairly easy to clean up and keeps her happy .

this... and usually if we are approaching or have passed snack/meal time and i cant hold them off till we get where we are going.  we do however allow sippy cups

  • Yup, he always has water and he often has a snack.  He LOVES to eat.

  • I do.  Keeps him happy, busy, and from falling asleep!

  • No.  He is still RF so it's really difficult to reach him or get to him if something were to happen.  I do feed him snacks at the store though to keep him happy during errands.
  • Yes, all the time. Usually just cheerios and water, but it keeps her occupied and happy.

  • i never let my kids eat in the car... the choking aspect is a big one - i don't want to have to pull over super fast, unbuckle, etc - all to help a choking child.

There is never a time that we are in the car THAT long that they NEED to eat.

We do drinks only on long car drives... and only if someone is in the back with them to help b/c otherwise the twins will throw them and they'll leak all over.

  • yep, i do!

  • No, he is still RF so I do not let him snack on things, only water in a sippy.

  • I let Cedric snack in the car all the time.  He is RF too.  He has always been good about getting things back to the front of his mouth if he does start to choke.  He hasn't choked during a drive though thank goodness!

  • No because she makes a mess, if I am worried she will want a snack she eats before we leave.
  • Yes.  Though only Puffs because they dissolve.
