Two Under 2

did you go back to work after 2 u2?

if so are they in daycare or is family  watching them.

We were getting ready  to enroll DS in  daycare this  coming year so I  could  work  more  often, (  I  work  part time) but just  found out  I'm preggo with #2. I don't want to  start daycare and then   pull him  out. Right now  we  juggle  our schedules  to work opposite shifts and  am panicking that DH wont be  able  to  handle  watching both kids.

Re: did you go back to work after 2 u2?

  • Im hoping that we can find a way for me to stay home. We have a family friend that watches DD, but I dont know if she is up for 2u2, and I just feel like I dont have enough time with DD as it is, but for the time being, I dont think we can afford not to have me working. sigh... I dont know what to do either.

  • We have an Au pair, it's cheaper than two in daycare and you don't have to get the kids up, ready and out the door before you go to work!  I used to have to be at work at 8am, so I would leave the house at 7:15... the kids would still be asleep, or just eating breakfast when I left.  Even though I'd rather be home with them, I feel better that they don't have to work around my schedule.  (45 hours a week and you get to make your own schedule!) I also have the benefit of having my mother around for back up care in case I work late, or the au pair is sick.  She also stops by and takes one or two of them out for "special grandma time" so it really frees up our weekend to have more family time :)

  • I consider my DH to be an amazing father and husband, and he is pretty good at handling the kids, however he admits that he could not do it alone for 40 hours a week.  We have 3 though, and who would have thought but sometimes the 5 year old is the most difficult of them all!  I am in school for the next year 3 days a week and my aunt watches them for us for a very reasonable price and DH has them one or two nights a week for a couple of hours by himself. I plan on going back to work full time in a year when I am through with school.

  • I am planning on going back to work because I have to for financial reasons.  I work in my family's business and I am only working 4 days a week.  My mom will watch both kids twice a week and my MIL the other two days.  We did this with DD but we would take her to their houses, I am working on trying to convince them that it is easier for them to come to us so all of the food, toys, and each kiddos crib are in one place and I don't have to pack two bags and prepack all of the food/bottles.  Normally, we leave the house at 7 but DD doesn't even wake up until 730 and I have her down to one nap a day now but the days hubby takes her to grandma's she has two naps a day from getting up too early.  My hubby does not like this idea though, he thinks it imposes too much on our moms. :(

  • I also work part time (17 hours a week). DH watches the kids around 8 hours a week/my stepmom helps out 8 hours a week. We will keep this schedule after #2 as well.

I have no worries that DH will not be able to handle 2 kids. I'm sure it will be an adjustment, but he's a parent and can handle it.

  •  Can DH  handle  2u2?  Heck  I don't  know  if I'm  going to  be  able  to handle 2u2. i'm sure it  will be  fine,  but  I  think  we  are  both  if  shock. We  wanted to wait a little  longer. But what's done is  done.

What  worries  me   about  DH not being able  to handle  2u2 is  that I  work overnights  and  he's  a  heavy  sleeper. We are lucky that DS  sleeps  through the  night,  but  who knows  what  will happen with #2.

With #1  I  stayed home a little  while  longer because I  was able  to  receive  $ for  leave.  I  don't know  how  thats  going to work with me  only working part time  now. (don't know  if I'll qualify for  it). We could  manage  with only one  income if we  really needed to, but I'm  sure  it  would  be  tight. Part of me  enjoys  going to work and  I think I'll miss that, as much  as I'd  like  to  stay  at  home.

  • how  did  you  go about  finding an Au pair? To  be  honest  I  don't know  if I'd be  comfortable  with  it. Did  you  go  through  a lot of interviews  before  you  found the  right one?  But  the  more  I  think  about it- It  would  be  totally  awesome.

If part of your concern is DH sleeping through #2 cries, what about having her in a bassinet in your room until she STTN? I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, but I doubt he'll be able to sleep if #2 is really crying. I have slept through fussing before, but definitely not full blown screaming.

  • DH and I juggle opposite shifts. We end up being alone with the kids most of the time, but it works out fairly well. Give your DH some credit :) It will probably take a little time to adjust, but he will be fine. It took DH about a week to really get it down (and the exact same thing happened when I went back to work after DS. He didn't have the DS/ DS and DD alone until I went back)
