I have a 1.5 hour drive to my MW and am in Ohio. I have an appointment this Thursday and we are supposed to get another snow storm this week on top of what we already got over the weekend. If I can't make it to the appointment this Thursday, I won't be able to make the drive until January.
I'm ok with not going, but I want my urine and iron levels tested. I'm going to call my MW and see what they recommend doing, but I thought I would check with your guys too. Is there a place to find urine strips for cheap? What about an at-home hemoglobin testing kit? I don't want to have to pay to go to my family doc and then pay for the labs for this stuff if I can do it myself at home for cheaper.
Re: Testing urine/blood at home?
You can definitely get the urine dipsticks online or perhaps go to a hospital pharmacy (chain pharmacies MAY have them in the diabetes testing supply section) They may not have them out, but they may likely have them.
As far as the Hgb testing, the only things I've ever seen are little testing meters, not especially cheap for only a month or so usage unless you really have anemia problems. Whether you need to be extremely vigilant about that or not, IDK, I think that one's for your MW to determine.
my local pharmacy sells urine strips that check for glucose. but i would talk to your mw about it because if you have always had good tests you might not need to do one. missing one here and there is not a big deal.
i would just go to your fam dr for the hemoglobin test or maybe the mw can send a lab slip to a local lab and you can go there. some place like a draw station.
