Tricks to prevent nipples getting hard from cold?

My nipples are so hard when the temperature drops at home or out. I've never had this issue. They feel like they're going to burst. Probably wishful thinking but know something I can use/do to prevent them from getting so hard?

    Oh I will be watching this thread! I have the same problem now and it was never an issue before. It hurts like a mother now!! I constantly walk around my house with my hands over my boobs just to keep them warm.

    I don't think there's really anything you can do to prevent this. It sucks, I know, believe me! When it is cold out, they hurt even more and it feels like you have to feed LO or pump right away. Maybe just layer up some more when you're out and you know it is going to be chilly. I wish I could offer up some more help, but I will also be watching this thread to see if anyone else knows what to do about it.

    I guess it's somethig about nursing? I have toe and hand warmers, seems like I can "invent" little nipple warmers and make a fortune!

    It helps me to wear a thicker breast pad like the Johnson & Johnson, with a padded nursing bra.  It's not perfect, but warmer than some of the thinner pads with a light bra.

    before i read this i was thinking of ways to put handwarmers between my bra and tank tops...ha

    LOL! I work retail and last winter, I used those Hot Hands in my mittens when outside. When I got ready to go onto the selling floor, I used to put them in my bra. lol. It's kind of embarrassing to admit I actually did it, but it  actually warms your whole body too.

    Really? How did you layer things? I remember that you can't put toe warmers on your skin, has to be on your sock. Can't remember how hand warmers work. It feels ridiculous to contemplate this but it's not even that cold out and it feels like my nipples will explode.
