Mini Babymoon Outside of the City?

MH and I are looking to finish up our Christmas shopping and I would like to make a weekend of it and escape the city for a couple days.  Does anyone have suggestions for a place (not too far) outside the city that would have great shopping as well as a B&B or nice hotel where we could stay?

    Gurnee or Kenosha?

    I know that Gurnee has hotels, as it's right by Six Flags, but since Six Flags is empty now, they're probably pretty reasonable.  And Gurnee Mills is right there.  

    Otherwise, if you want to venture a bit further, Milwaukee has some nice areas and is only 1.5 hours away.

    Lake Geneva, WI would be nice. You can shop at the outlet malls along the way, too.

    Geneva, IL has a really cute shopping area and I believe some nice BnBs as well.
