VBAC

DH support up in the air again

So, awhile ago I started looking into VBAC and explained things to DH. At first, he was not into the idea but came around and said he'd support what I want to do.

Last night, I said I think I do want to go the VBAC route, which will require going to a hospital 45 minutes away in good weather. I'm due Feb 22 in WI. Odds are, not good weather, lol. :)

So, DH says, hopefully they'll just induce you then early before you go into real labor. When he figured out I'd be going into real labor and needing to get to the hospital, he was definitely surprised.

So, I think he's probably still on board but we're both a little nervous about the drive there in the winter. The other hospital I could walk to from our house - but they don't do VBAC at all.

  • I can understand your apprehension about the weather.  You might need to leave earlier in labor for the hospital than you would otherwise but I think it's worth it if that's the only option for you to have the kind of birth you want.  It sucks that you can't just use the hospital that is right by your house--stupid VBAC bans!

  • Maybe if you show him some of the risks/stats for RCS you can sway him to be more supportive.

Stick to your guns and get your VBAC, Momma!

Have you considered a home birth? There are many midwives who are comfortable with VBAC. Midwives also have a good amount of medical training and most are RNs. Since you have a hospital so close to your house, if you needed it, help is close.

No, home birth is not something I'm considering. I'll be VBA2C's....and I think I'd rather be at the hospital anyway.

But, I think after talking through things we came up with this plan:

-Go for VBAC at farther away hospital and hopefully get a head start and good weather

-If the weather is too ridiculous to travel or it appears that baby is going to come out in a snow covered cranberry marsh, go to the closer hospital and do RCS.

I think this is a really good plan.

I didn't realize you were VBA2C--it's great that you have that option in your area. :)
