Pregnant after a Loss

Can I just sit here and have a pity party for a second?

I'm sorry, I know this is annoying. But I'm so frustrated. I haven't gotten sick in about a week or so. So, I started trying to introduce some healthy items - a glass of milk, a small spinach salad. And BOOM - I just had the most intense and awful bout of puking ever a minute ago. My stomach hurts it was so much.

I don't know what to do. I keep reading about how important my diet is, and how critical for the baby, but I cannot keep the good stuff down. Only carbs, and sugar, and crappy stuff like a cheeseburger here and there. Chicken is gone, pork is iffy, fish is no way in hell. Fruits hate me, vegetables are a no go. Juice, soup, instant breakfasts...I feel like I've tried everything.

And I have not once, this entire pregnancy, kept down a vitamin. OB told me to just stop.

I feel like I'm hurting her - I know I'm anemic at this point (I am anyway in life, so there's no way I'm avoiding it now w/ my diet of waffles, oatmeal and bread), I am sure I will fail the GD test.

I have an appointment on Wed., obviously this is what we will talk about. But I felt like maybe I was getting to the point where I could be a good mommy and eat some healthy stuff and then vomit.

And it's in my hair, too. (Told you this was a pity party.)

Okay, vent/b!tching/whining over. Thank you.

  • I am so sorry that you're still sick.  It sounds like you are really trying your hardest for your little one, and that's all that counts.  I was sick until 19 weeks, and my ob reassured me that my lo was still going to get the nutrients she needed regardless.  I hope your appt goes well this week and your ob can give you some reassurance and maybe something to make you feel better.  Try not to be so hard on yourself. You are doing a great job and are going to be a great mommy.

My doctor said that the baby is like a parasite and it will take everything it needs from you, regardless of what you eat.

Same here. You'll just have some catching up to do once she get here but she's taking what she needs from your body as she goes.

  • I'm sorry you're still dealing with the puking.  I'm sure LO is just fine in there.  ((HUGS))

Have you tried chewable prenatals??  I haven't been able to keep down regular ones either so I get these from Walgreens:  https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/bellybar-prenatal-mixed-fruit-chewable-multivitamin-tablets/ID=prod6031042-product

  • Don't stress yourself, the baby will take what it needs from your body.

Have you tried the gummy bear vitamins? During the first tri it was the only vitamin that stayed down for me. Just don't tell Cami that it is good for her.

  • Thanks ladies. I know I'm being a big baby.

I have tried the gummies, as well as gummy Flinstones. It's all a no go, and OB told us to just throw them away. I know he wouldn't say that if it was a real concern (and I'm still on Folgard and FA).

It's just so against what you read - take your PNVs, eat well, etc. You know? They don't mention your system might reject the whole thing.

  • Honey, she will be fine.  You're doing good.  Your waffles are iron fortified. Can you drink some OJ when you have oatmeal or bread?  It'll help you absorb the iron.

And your diet has little to do with the GD test - it's about what your body can handle and how well insulin is working. . .  it's all good.  I swear.

  • I'm so sorry Sad

I've heard through the grapevine that a baby is a "perfect parasite"...meaning that it will get the nutrition it needs from the mother's stores...usually to the detriment of the mother. That the reason to eat healthy and all that is to make sure that the mother still has enough to survive.
