Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Mommies with LO's that STTN please come in

So I have an almost 5 month old daughter and she use to always sleep till 5 or 6 am......then usually she would take a bottle and play maybe an hour and be out till 9 am. Lately she has been a bit difficult. Last night for example she woke me at 2:45 am (after we fed her and put her down around 11:30).......then she wouldnt sleep, wasnt crying or anything, just wanted to make her play noise and be up. Finally around 4 she went to sleep......baby monitor went off 30 minutes later!! She then kept me up till 8 am! Any advice would be great.....I dont like ferber method but last night I did even try that for increments of 15 minutes and still nothing. Dont know what to do but its been a good week now.....

  • Does she nap well during the day?  Does she have a bedtime/ bedtime routine?  Does she eat enough during the day?

What do you do when she gets up at night? Do you go check on her?

DS wakes up in the middle of the night and talks/plays/rolls sometimes.  We have a video monitor so I see if he needs me and just let him be if he is ok.  I will turn down the sound if he is keeping us awake.  His room is right next to ours so we hear him if he starts crying, no monitor is needed.

  • She naps okay during the day usually at 10 am 2pm and 6 pm. Besides her 6pm nap she only sleeps maybe an hour. We have a video monitor and I think maybe I should just leave her alone unless she is crying....... I also realized that we were still partially using her sensitive formula (which they say she doesnt need and its MUCH less of a fullness than the Gerber they have her on now) so we decided to just use the Gerber now at night and see if that helps. Thanks for your feedback!

Give that a try.  She'll let you know if she needs you.  My DD frequently wakes up at around 4 or 5, talks to herself for a bit, and then sleeps for another 3 hours.  The first few nights I was still tired because I had been up listening to her and waiting for the cry, but it never came.  I have now realized she has a good set of lungs and will use them when she really needs me.

  • I definitely know your frustration. Just wanted to point out, though, that the Ferber method will not work in one night. If you decide to go that route you have to stick with it for several nights.
