my CW has been on maternity leave since April 1st. We are the only 2 in this location of our company who do our job - sort of our own department. She is only PT (2 days a week) most of the year. The 8 weeks of our deadline, she works full time - and believe me with 2 of us full time those weeks, we are still here for 12-14 hour days. I need her.
She is due to return from mat. leave 1st of January. I just called her (we're also friends, not just CW's now). She answered and said she was in the building to talk to Jeff (our boss) and she'd be up after. So I said "girl, you better be coming back to work". She just said, I'll talk to you after (again).
I've managed 2 rounds of deadlines since she left on my own (brutally), and DO NOT want to think of that being my life from here on out. I can't imagine them hiring someone to fill her limited schedule. I will be miserable and pretty lonely here. Thank goodness I leave end of January for my mat. leave and don't return until Sept.
I don't know what my boss will do to cover this dept., especially during the deadlines.
Update: talked to her. Her MIL from Mexico lives with them the past several years and has been her childcare. MIL is now returning to Mexico for all of 2011, leaving CW with no childcare in place for 5 kids. She's really hoping MIL returns mid-year and if our work approves her taking this extended leave, then she'll be back when she can.
