At my last appointment, my doctor said to start thinking about BC after baby. She then proceeded to ramble at least 4 or 5 different methods. Needless to say it was overwhelming. I know this may be TMI for some, but if not, can you tell me what you used after baby?
TIA!

Re: BC Options
I used to work in an OB office so we got this question all the time. If you plan to nurse, your choices are very limited. If you do not plan to nurse, you can use just about anything.
If you are going to nurse, pp actually hit most of the options. The mini pill has to be taken at the same time every day to be at all effective. You have to be very careful. I personally know several people who got pregnant on the mini pill.
You could also use an IUD. Mirena is hormonal and goof for 5 years, Paraguard is copper and good for 10. The downfall to those is they can be very expensive depepnding on your insurance and if you plan to TTC again soon it may not be worth the cost.
You can also use Depo Provera which is a shot every 3 months. The downfall with that is it can make it take longer to conceive after you stop get the injections. I believe it can delay it up to a year.
Honestly (and this may be TMI) we just use condoms. Neither of us prefer them, but they are the only thing that seems to fit for us right now. DS is 11 months and when he stops nursing I will probably go back on a pill.
This is pretty much my answer. My OB gave me a script for the mini-pill at my 6 week pp checkup but I was turned off by it because for one, she warned me I had to be very careful, and 2nd, from what I read small amounts of hormones are excreted in your breastmilk and although that is supposedly safe it just wasn't cool with me.
FTR I absolutely hate hormonal birth control and will never go on it again.
Ditto PPs we have returned to the BC method of our youth.
At my 6 wk pp visit after having DD the gyn was pissed that I didn't want the mini-pill script, but I had read too many accounts of moms having supply issues while on it. By 6 weeks we had bf'ing well established and I was committed to bf'ing until she was 1. I would have been pissed if I had had to supplement or switch to formula because of a pill.
We figured the IUD wasn't right since we knew we wanted kids around 2 yrs apart, also I am not that comfortable with it.
We use condoms and DH is having surgery in a couple of weeks because we are done.
My doctor me at my 6 weeks PP appointment that the mini pill would be one of the only things to work while BFing and even then he suggested use of a condom as well because you can still get pregnant on it. Especially(as PP pointed) if you don't take it the same time every day. Too much pressure
ETA: Condoms work well for us. C was planned just in case anyone was wondering if our BC let us down
