It's freezing in DD's room!! Suggestions?

It is so cold in DD's room. We just realized all four of her bedroom walls are against walls that aren't getting any heat (one wall is against the garage, another against the outside, etc). We obviously dress her warmly at night and have the heat on but it is still so cold in there. Anyone else have this same dilemma? What are you doing?

  • Have you been up to the attic to see if you can do anything permanently?  Our bedrooms are on outside corners so there are two walls in each that are outside walls.  It's an old house so it wasn't insulated at all.  We figured out that we could get in there with spray foam insulation.  Last year we used a small radiant heater in the room, but we didn't want to do it this year with the fear that she'd learn to climb out of the crib.

  • Do you have a ceiling fan in her room?  If so, make sure you switch the rotation so it's blowing the warm air back down into the room.  Besides that I'm clueless, DS's room is so cold, he's been sleeping in his pack n play in our room for the past week.  I'd love some advice, and we're in an apartment, so we're limited on what we can do.
  • Keep the door open to allow heat from the rest of the house to come in.  Maybe a small heater can be brought in at night.  They have one at Costco.

  • I have THIS space heater in DS's room. I love that it has a thermostat so I can set the temperature in his room. If it gets too cold, the heater kicks back on and it'll turn off when it reaches 2 degrees over what I have the thermostat set to. It's quiet and despite what some reviews say, the beep it makes when it turns on and off isn't loud and doesn't disturb DS.

I really, really, really didn't want to put a space heater in his room, but I didn't have any other choice. I've put plastic over his windows and keep his door open to allow more heat in, but it's still FREEZING in there. He sleeps in fleece footed jammies with a blanket, but I still worry about him being too cold.

Since I put the heater in his room he has been sleeping better and his little hands are nice and warm when I get him up in the AM.

  • We have a similar issue (2 outside walls, old house, no insulation).  We just started putting 2 pairs of pants on DS to keep him warm.  I also found that hanging curtains on the windows has helped a lot!  We insulated the basement and also the attic.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!

  • We just moved into an apartment while we look for a new house to buy and both kids' rooms are freezing! I just ordered a Halo Sleepblanket. They are like the Halo Sleepsacks, but with holes in the feet. If you good Halo Early Walkers you'll see them. Right now I'm dressing him in 2 layers of pajamas..the ones with the feet. I layer a cotton one and then put a heavy fleece one over it. When the Halo sleepblanket comes, I'll probably just do the cotton PJs on. I read that the sleepblankets are super-warm.

I would never do a space heater at night. I'm too paranoid...I've read too much about them causing house fires.

I'm not crazy, I've just been a very bad mood for the last 40 years!
