DH and I are kicking around TTC #2 now instead of waiting until I graduate with my nursing degree in August. The pros would be that I could graduate, take the state boards, then have the baby. No maternity leave, no worrying about FMLA, just starting work after I have the baby. The cons are that 2U2 is hard work!
Has anyone planned 2U2 this way? Are we nuts?
Re: Anyone done 2U2 as a new grad?
Makes sense to me! It would be good to not have to worry about FMLA, maternity leave, etc. Plus being a nurse, I would imagine you are on your feet most of the day...it would probably not be fun to be pregnant and on your feet all day. As long as you can afford it, I say go for it!
I am a full time working Mom with 2u2 and it is def. doable. Sure, the beginning was a little hectic, but it settles down quickly.
Good luck to you!
Although I am not in that situation, to answer your question a lot would depend on finances. Can you financially afford to have 2 kids in diapers/formula (never can depend on being able to nurse), etc until you are able to secure a job after graduation? What happens if you get put on bedrest during your pregnancy and have to delay graduation a semester-is it going to be a struggle to pay for all the expenses for 2 kids with no job? Do you have the option to work part time if it becomes too much juggling being a new mom to 2 young kids and working? 1 kid is expensive-2 is double the expense. If you can make the numbers work I'd say go for it. Adding a 2nd kid is going to be hard no matter what timeframe you choose so money would really be the deciding factor for me.
