traveling with a toddler + twins...

DH's cousin is getting married at the end of May.  His family is really close so he would like to go to the wedding.  We originally thought we would drive and make a little vacation out of it and see some of my cousins on the way.  In the end, the wedding is right during DH's finals.  So at most, he can maybe skip one day of studying assuming he does not have any finals scheduled the day after the wedding.  We talked about flying in the morning of the wedding and coming back either that night or the next morning.  I am still not sure this is a great idea, and I think DH should maybe just go alone, but his family is really close and I think he wants everyone to come.  So, the point is, I was wondering how it works when you fly with car seats.  We would rent a car when we got there so do we check the car seats?  Do we check it at the gate?  We would buy a seat for DS #1, but I don't think we would get seats for the twins.  Ignoring the craziness of traveling for one day with all three kids, how does the whole car seat thing work?  Also, same thing with strollers - do you check them at the gate?  When do they give the stroller back to you?

TIA!  Sorry this is long and scattered; we are just playing with different ideas on how we could possibly get to the wedding.

  • I've only flown with Emerson and that was a nightmare with everything we had to have.  I can't imagine flying with three for only one day of travel-no freaking way.

I can tell you would really like to go but, put the baby's feelings first.  They would be absolutely miserable only to make you...absolutely miserable.

  • If all else fails, and you can't all go, maybe DH and toddler could go?

That way its less stressful for you, and at least he's got a "date", even if his date is short and a little bald.

To be honest, I don't really feel the need to go.  I told DH to go alone, but I think he really wants to show the three boys to all his extended family.  I know it is going to be miserable.  I am just trying to figure out how miserable and if it is worth the craziness to make DH happy.
