Two Under 2

Is #2 doing things before/after #1 did?

I just looked back to see that #1 was saying dada, ball & bye bye at 10 mo. and #2 is not saying anything yet. She's not as 'into' the world as #1 was and my mom keeps giving me trouble about it (don't they all). She also had colic for the 1st 5 mo., so i'm thinking that may put her a bit behind since all she did was cry all the time. She's physically on target, but not even close to verbally where #1 was and he's even a boy!  What about yours?

  • Same thing with mine! DS1 was very far ahead of DS2 at this point. DS2 is 16 months old and he only says, "all over," and "wow." That is it. When DS1 was 16 months old he could say about 20 words, knew all his animal sounds, his body parts, etc. I could also tell him things like, "turn off the tv," or "get the ball." And he would do it. DS2 has no idea what I am talking about. DS2 has his 16 month appointment in 2 weeks, so we will be talking to the pedi about a possible EI assessment.

  • #2 is a little ahead of #1 physically and verbally.  He's just always trying to keep up with his big bro.

Just goes to show that you can't compare kids!

  • My #2 has been doing EVERYTHING much earlier then #1

Each child develops differently. Don't compare them, it will drive you nuts.

    This.

#1 never crawled but walked across the room by himself at 10 months.

    #2 didn't walk until 13 months.

    #1 spoke normally

#2 spoke multi-word phrases at 9 months and knew all of his letters and letter sounds by 15 months (because he was being exposed to it with the older one learning them).  Freaked everyone out.  Even the pediatrician.

     #1 was highly emotional

    #2 is very laid back.

#1 has zero athletic ability.  He barely hit the "jump" milestone by his 3rd birthday.

#2 is all about anything athletic even though he's a very small kid.

They're very different kids on all levels.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • All kids are different, everyone says "don't compare" and I know it's hard, but its really important... If you are really concerned asked the pediatrician what the "normal range" for talking is.. Your first might have had his/her first words on the early side and #2 might be on the later side.... In my case  DS#1 had a speech delay and didn't say his first words until after he was two, but DS #2 was 10 months, DD#1 was 8 months, and DD#2 is 10 months but is only babbling... if you want to move to walking they range from 10 months to 1 1/2 years for first steps...
