when did you take your LO out of the bath seat?

After reading the bath posts below, I began to wonder when kids no longer use a bath seat. Even with constant supervision, I am way too worried that my older DD will slip in the tub if she's not in the bath seat. I intend to use it as long as she fits in it. While I prefer to use it, I'm curious what moms of older toddlers think as to when a child is ready to bathe without a bath seat.

    10 months for all 3 kids. I bathe 3 kids in a tub by myself and have not had any issues........

    I never used a bath seat for my daughter, but she was in the infant tub until she was about 8 or 9 months.  After that, I got one of those bath mats that goes in the tub so she won't slip and slide all over.  We still use it.

    We never used the bath seat, I just put a non-slip mat in the "big" tub when he could sit well around 7 months and it's been fine.  I only fill the tub about 3 inches so LO crawls around in there without a problem.

    We've never had a bath seat and always bathed them in the big tub. Once #2 arrived, they started taking a bath together (#2 was 2 weeks old and #1 was 16 months) still with no bath seat.

    Your child (or anybody else's) does not need to have a seat. You (general you) need/want them to have it. They are able to learn that they can't stand up in the bathtub as early as they attempt to do it. But usually it's more annoying to the parents to have to repeat themselves over and over until the baby gets it.

    What I'm trying to say is that there isn't written rule (like with carseats) that you should follow. Trust your instinct. If you don't feel comfortable with letting her be without it, then don't do it. But rest assured she is perfectly able to learn to be in the tub sitting on her own :)

    DD is starting to pull herself out of the seat and I hate it.  I need to get a new mat because the one time I did not use the seat, she went back while sitting on her tush.  I like having the seat.  It makes it easier for me, but I see it going into the attic sooner than later.

    This exactly. Up until that point we kept him in the infant tub and just took out the insert.
