2nd Trimester

cried at Kohl's today...

I was checking out and the cashier (a woman around age 55-60?) complimented my rings (wedding and engagement.) I just smiled and said thank you. She asked how long i've been married and if we had any kids. I answered, 3 yrs/ 1st on the way.  She said she had 3 children and she knew hubby for 29 yrs, married for 25 of them, and she just stopped wearing her wedding rings recently.  I didn't want to ask why, but 2 things crossed my mind- divorce or fit (she was a big lady- maybe they don't fit anymore?)

So then she tells me that her husband passed away recently. I just said sincerely "I'm so sorry." (what else can you say?) She went on to say that it was unexpected and she has no idea how she's gotten through it.  She told me to enjoy this exciting time in my life and cherish every day with my husband and family.  By that time my eyes had completely welled up and I didn't know what to say, I just nodded.

She apologized for upsetting me, so I just smiled and blamed pregnancy hormones. She said she had a wonderful 29 years and wished me that and more.  She was handing me my bag so I just told her to enjoy her holidays. I thanked her and left, then got to my car and started bawling!! She wasn't saying any of it in an upsetting way- it was like lighthearted smalltalk. But I couldn't help but feel bad for her and I started to think about if I ever lost my hubby and what i'd do... my mind was just racing awful thoughts. ugh. damn hormones!

I did come home and give my hubby a big hug and kiss :)  I think I love him a little extra today!

Re: cried at Kohl's today...

  • I would have been a big blubbering baby if it would have been me in your situation. I started to tear up reading this. *sigh

I am so sorry to hear about this.  What a horrible thing to have to go through.

No reason to blame pregnancy hormones. This is a very sad story.  Crying

  • Aww...that is sad! I almost teared up just reading the post about it. I would have been a wreck in person.

  • Bless your heart! I would have been a crying mess, too!
  • Don't blame the hormones!!!  Thats really sad :(  When I worked at Target in Highschool and old man came in with a giant bag of womens clothes to return.  I asked if there were anything wrong with the items, and he repiled "no, my wife passed away before she got a chance to wear them." I finished his transaction, and then ran away and bawled my eyes out! His sad expression is forever stuck in my mind, and how sweet is was for him to shop for clothes for his ill wife!
