XP: Another version of this stroller?

I posted this on the Baby Gear board, but this is my home, and I don't know how much traffic that board gets anyway. :)

I love this Phil & Ted stroller with the extra seat that you attach in the back to make it a double stroller. I think a lot of their strollers have the option to add the doubles kit. I used this one for two years while nannying for a family with 3 kids and it's light-weight, easy to open and close, and the mini seat down below is such a great idea!! Now that I'm having a baby, I'd love a stroller like this, but the price tag is... a bit much. Or a lot much. :)

Has anyone seen a stroller with a similar concept for less? All the other double strollers I can find are side by side or front to back, and I like how this one can transition from being a single to a double stroller. Thanks in advance if you know of one!!

  • I dont know this brand.  I would check other web sites to see if you can find it cheaper.

  • i have a feeling it's unique to Phil & Ted's and i think it's a Canadian brand isn't it?

my fear with that one is your baby/child putting their hands through the tires or else picking everything up off the ground...and if your puttting your newborn in there and the older child in the top seat then your baby is so far to the ground and not as easy access if they fall asleep or to be able to put them in there when they're asleep.

if you are canadian - the Valco is a GREAT stroller and i think DH and i are getting that one - it comes with an attachment for your older second child and in the main part the back folds flat so you can put your newborn in it. some won't fold all the way flat so you can't put a newborn in there. i mean i'm really not an expert we just chatted with a store owner who was telling us the difference. he said unless you plan to run or do a lot of 4x4'ing with your stoller and if having your newborn sit flat is important than the Valco is a great option.

good luck finding one - all the good ones are VERY expensive too which really sucks

  • Two other strollers that have the very same features (option to add on 2nd seat that's not side by side, etc.) are the Britax B-Ready and the Baby Jogger City Select. We just bought the Britax, but unfortunately it is not cheaper than the Phil & Ted's you like...both about $500 without the 2nd seat attachment :-(

But maybe this will help convince you that the Phil & Ted's is a better deal ;-)

  • I don't know the answer to your question but just a thought - if you have ever seen one of these strollers in person you might think twice about getting it. I know some people LOVE them so I figured I would stick DS in one to try it out. The seat on the bottom is really low to the ground yet close to the seat above it. My DS was in it for less than a minute when he flipped out screaming "Get me out of here it's weird" While it was sort of funny hearing him yell it's weird, I'm glad I tried it out!

Like I said in my OP, I used this stroller regularly for 2 years while nannying, so I have experience with it. I know the seat is low to the ground, but I had 2 different kids in it (the family had 3 children, so the middle and youngest both used the lower seat), and they never complained about it. Plus, when the child is old enough to walk- they can get in and out almost unassisted which is convenient.

However, I can't justify spending this much on a stroller!!!

  • If cost is a factor, now is a good time to start raiding Craigslist to find a good used one for a cheaper price.  Also, consider that spending more upfront now negates the purchase price of a double stroller down the road should you decide to have a second child.  The cost savings evens out a but when you think of it that way.
