So here's the thing. We had our last interview with our SW for our homestudy on Sept 8. The way it works with our agency is that we had 5 separate interviews spread over 3 months and we did our education, doctors, etc during that time as well. On Sept 8th when she left our house she had all of her notes and all of our documentation. She said that we would receive our formal report as soon as she was done writing it. She said 'I'll write it as quickly as I can...maybe about a month.' This may seem long to some of you, but it's how our ageny works and we knew that going in, so in theory I'm fine with it. However, it's now been 6 weeks. I don't want to be the annoying woman who's essentially saying 'are we there yet?' but I'm curious what you all think. At what point would you call to check on things? I did email the agency 2 weeks ago just to 'see if they had the correct addy on file' which is funny but valid as they did have a typo in our addy initially and heard back that all was corrected. I know this is yet another hurry up and wait stage but I really want to get my hands on the report so that we can get it translated. What would you do?
Re: should I call?
I would ABSOLUTELY call. Granted, or case was different, but our SW wrote the homestudy report at our kitchen table, and gave us a copy before she left.
FWIW: I talk to our SW a min of about 4 times per week, and I talk the children's social worker at least daily at this point. I've apologized to all of them for bugging them so much, and all have told me that's what they are there for.
We are adopting through foster care. We had orientation in Jan, training in April, and finished up CPR and physicals about 2 weeks ago. We are adopting siblings, so we met the kids a week ago, and are working on full transition over Halloween.
I can sympathize - and it's perfectly fine to check in with her. Email or call and say you were just contacting to see if there was anything else that needed to be done or any more information she'd need
good luck!
Thanks everyone.
I just put a call in to our agency. They don't have a record of our HS as being completed in their files but she is going to check with our SW's supervisor to see if the report is in revision to it's final form or if our SW has yet received it. I do feel better
